hello, ive got plans to lower my 1.2 nova spin 1993, but she rolls on big wide 195 tyres and 15" wheels, at the moment it has big gaps between the wheels and arches, but as i'm changing the suspension because it is old and standard i'm planning to sort out the gaps. wat would be a sensible amount to lower it? i might just be able to fit the tyres under the rear arches if i beat the lip out a bit more? any ideas would be nice thanks:thumb:

25-40mm would be fine but use the search and have a look at what others have done, the sky the limit really and 15's with 195's on arn't exactly big.

Start a Picture Request for Lowered Novas...

Your wheels seem pretty wide, would they clear the arches if lowered? Seem to be the wrong offset.

Standard GSi Novas sit a few mm lower than other models, or you could try 30/40 as mentioned above but i think Clearence is going to be an issue here.

^ I was going to say the wheels look to be poking out a little bit. Tyres look a bit baloon like as well, but thats a good thing :D

Have the arches been rolled? Whats your budget - will you be buying a complete strut and spring setup or just springs?

[edit] Moved to styling, as the question is "how low" rather than "how to" :p

Arches look relatively untouched.

What size are the wheels?

Get some 195/45/15's on it and I reckon you'd be able to go down about 80mm all round possibly...

Mines had 195/45/15's on it down 60mm and it looked perfect:

60mm is usually the drop to go for, looks sensible and wont cause you problems depending on the offset. however if you're like me, 100mm rear and 80mm front works well :)

well ive tapped the lip up on the rear arches, just so that i can drive it now without tyre rubbing, but the suspension is still standard from 1993 so it is really soft at the moment, i will have to get sum heavy people in the back and see how much more clearence i will need and think about gettin the arches rolled properly. the front wheels stick out a bit but i mostly want to reduce the big gap on the front and the rear arches to just cover the top of the tyre :)

Sometimes i do not get you at all :D lol
How can huge sidewall tyres be a good thing on a car with such tiny wheel arches(unless you have a hatch with a longer boot lol )

As for the original poster, id probably stick to 40mm on those wheels.
More clearence, and it'll handle better than 60mm.

Sell/Swap the wheels in Favour of a set of SR 3 Spokes and lower it 60mm.

Remove the stickers and give it a good T-Cutting and wind up with this --->

Balloon tyres ftw! I'm into american muscle though, and they don't come with skinny tyres... so that probably explains it lol

Is that lowered 60mm for real?

I lowered mine 30mm matey, due to the fact that my offset was 43mm and I do sometimes have the car full so I wanted to be able to lower it enough to give it a better stance and improved look rather then the off road clearence that mine used to have and be able to drive it speed bumps and passenger without too much hassle.

I will grab a quick pic to show you what its like with 30mm drop.

The rear in the lower pic is 60mm and the front 30 iirc. Needs to be lowered properly all round.

And thats how she sits behind the scenes, looks as if there isnt much travel but its been all good no bottoming out which I wouldnt have expected on 30mm. Oh BTW its now been schultz'd and stonechip protected and it does now have the bumpstops and shock piston gaiter fitted as the muppets who did it thought it wasnt needed :tard:
