Wel, here it goes then... As said before and now having a little spare time to put it online.

Since I had a little white Nova (Corsa here) bought for the girlfriend those days I was thinking of putting a X20XEV in it.
But being all busy with the house and my Corsa B didn't have much time to spare then. The vid of my Corsa B can be seen on here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8A5Zhyc-z_4
After a while the girlfriend left me for another guy but the little white Nova 1.0 was left with me.

Last year I found a Nova Michalak spider on Autoscout24 in Germany for a decent price but the car was allready a project and was completely apart.
But since I had a Nova in the driveway it would look nice and it was a new challenge to put my mind to something else then women

(I made them all clickable to reduce the sizes of the pages ;) )
Here are some pictures from the Michalak in better days:

These are the home coming pictures (please be warned, there are some horror-pics in between :D ):

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%201/th_michalak010.jpg (http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%201/michalak010.jpg)

Ok, the thing is "a bit" rotten but I see something between the red primer and rust. Not sure it was the car or something else :tard:

Oh, almost forgot to give you guys the details on this little one:
Opel Corsa (Nova) Michalak "Corsaspider" E16SE rebuild by the guys from JW-Motorsport Germany around '94 and was taxed those days for 56.000DM
Lexmaul 4-2-1 exhaust manifold.
The coilover kit was specially fabricated for them and it's still on.
Black Gsi dash, electric windows

Anyways, since we were in Germany we had to stop for some food at:

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%201/th_michalak027.jpg (http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%201/michalak027.jpg)

On with the trip home we made a little history since it's the first Corsaspider from Michalak to have a new home in Belgium (25-08-2007).
I then started to find out more about Michalak and the spiders. Not so many were build (98) and offcourse not so many are left nowadays.
Since it was so rare I then started to realise this isn't a "rotten thing" but something that's worth the effort and started to sort all the parts out and taking it further apart for a complete resto.

I'm going to spare you guys with the other horror pics but will let you in on the rebuildings of the car since it's now almost ready for bodyworks and rebuilds.
But offcourse I had to find a donor for the rotten parts (mainly the floorpanels, the sides are allready found new)

Anyways, I allready love the Novaload forums since I allready found so much information on Nova's :thumb:
And keep your comments coming!

Indeed, found all that info too at Steve's site which was giving me load's of info on the Michalak spiders and offcourse on other types of Nova/Corsa's.

But also the Michalak cars were ment only for the German market so we never seen those cars in Belgium either.
Untill last year that is :D

Still tryin' to find more pictures and info on mine so if anyone seen or heard anything...

Are they rear engine'd ?

No, actually, the one in the picture is the only one and it's still with it's creator Bernd Michalak I believe. All others were normally 1.0, 1.2 or 1.3 versions.
Mine was rebuild to Gsi specs in '94 that I found after hours of searching on the net :tard:

CorsaBBoomer
27-05-08, 10:06 PM
Oh, sorry lol
Actually it's the widebody version from Michalak itself.
This prototype with the rearengine en 6 others (as I'm correctly informed) were build those days.
The engine from the red was a 1.8 with a compressor build on from Kissling and produced an estimated 200ps...
It has, after 23 years, only 5000km's driven

Quick update of this weekend

Put on one of my alloy's to test-fit...

Does anybody now how much space the coilover set of Avo needs at the rear from wheel to coil? :wtf:

My little rust-bucket...:

So at the moment wil be sanding and blasting untill the whole body is is checked for rotten panels... The pieces that are good will be primed right away offcourse :)

Started today on the front arch. As you all can see, there's a little hole so of with the underseal to be sure what's beneath it all...

And here the work from today... Got bugged by the rear axle stil hanging on the car so started working. Had to come up with some "special" tools to get the bolts from the suspension... There was a f***in cylinder thing around it and couldn't get to it with normal tools:

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/th_michalak288.jpg (http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/michalak288.jpg)

Yeah, sometimes a bit of food and drinks does wonders if you get stuck with it...
Anyway, hopefully tonight the other side loose and get that darn rear-axle gone...

Update for today:

Got the rear of...

When trying to get the dampers of, I cracked a bolt, no, no due to my strength... Just used a bit of a long bar... But that was 1 side so on to the other...

Mmmm, bugger is in deep... Need to sort this sometime...

But it's out of the way and bodyscraping can commence...

Ok, back again after a few days with the misses :tard:

Not much to say then it's just a lot of work to get that gelly bondo underseal type of stuff of it...
But going completely blank since the new product loves blank rusted steel except the rear quarters since they were widened with lead instead of normal bondo (think it's the qword for it)
Enjoy or cry :wtf:

Oh yeah, sometimes checking the forum too

Just wondering why you didn't start with repairing those rusty parts that attach to the rear panel before welding in the new rear panel?:confused:
I mean that 3cm small stripe that goes up from the floor and where the rear panel gets spot welded?

Yes Steve, I know what we've done there but this isn't welded yet (only the upper sides).
Was to locate the rear panel and now we are going to work inside out to repair it with L-shaped steel to make it stronger ;)

I hope we get it done before the end of this month since I'm going to Techno Classica in Essen to get some missing bits (if we can find any).
More pics next week but for now a pic of my "daily" Nova which hasn't been started in 6 months due to my Swift from work...:

All that bare steel really wants treating with something like POR15 metal-ready to stop it rusting up so quick. And try not to touch the bare metal with your skin, you'll leave tiny ammounts of various oils and acids on the metal if you do which will promote rust.

Done a bit more today (and last sat. too but was too tired to put up the pics :D )

We rebuilded the light-holder since the lower side was gone thanks to the eating of mother nature...

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/th_michalak368.jpg (http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/michalak368.jpg)

The backplate was welded in first so we could strengthen up the floorpanel since this is a very weak spot (you see Steve? :D ):

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/th_michalak370.jpg (http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/michalak370.jpg)

Cleaning it all up takes more work then welding... Hope the future works go a bit quicker

A little update for you guys here

Started to experiment with the Fertan for the treatment of the bare metal...
And it actually works as they say (would be a nice colour):

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/th_michalak381.jpg (http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/michalak380.jpg)

Was a bit jealous when I was surfing through all the threads on this forum and to see that many have jigs you all have to turn the car on it's side...
So had some wood and a friend to help me think it out and we made this on saturdaymorning :D

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/th_michalak384.jpg (http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/michalak384.jpg)

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/th_michalak387.jpg (http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/michalak387.jpg)

The car hangs nicely and the costs are minimal so it's perfect!

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/th_michalak389.jpg (http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/michalak389.jpg)

But when one turns the car, one finds not so perfect things underneath...

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/th_michalak394.jpg (http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/michalak394.jpg)

I think we will need a few bottles of Coke and some packs of cigarettes to get this all done...
But it's a joy to work on the car since all is so easy to reach now :thumb:

Wow, surely need to do an update here...

Didn't do much last year as my dad past away but we are back on track now. The weather is getting better and it's starting to tickle in my fingers.

Last year we did some welding on the floor and swapped the rotten parts for some better material:

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/michalak408.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/michalak409.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/michalak416.jpg

Bought a sandblasting-tool thing bomb since the primer I put on last year didn't work out as it should have. And surely the moist in the garage didn't help either.

So back a few steps and starting to blast my way around.
This will hopefully give me some fresh metal to proceed with some better primer as I want this shell to get ready before next winter. I want to do something else next winter then only looking on a bare and rusted shell

Anyway, here are some rust-blasting pics and more will be added in the next few weeks... Tomorrow first of all our trip to Essen Techno Classica to check some oldie's and hopefully to find a few parts of which I'm searching for another project (more details will come in due time).
And next week hopefully back to the "Beach Party" in the garage for some more blasting fun :wtf:

Yesterday a day spent of 15h on the Michalak. This morning again a few hours but not that much...

The sanding-team did a huge job on getting the shell ready for the last coat of primer. While they were on it, I took the time to build up the front to get it rolling.
Then this happened:

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/michalak611.jpg

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/michalak613.jpg

And yes, after many hours of sanding and getting it rolling, she is out after so many years, blood, sweat and tears thanks to the whole team!

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/michalak616.jpg

After cleaning up the Mancave (or what it should become next winter...) we fine sanded it up and gave it the last coat of primer.
Lines are almost perfect (for a Michalak) and all will stay prepped to sand the primer down for the painter next Saturday.

This morning I started to blank the wings to bare metal and providing the -rust-risk places a coat of the rust-primer. Then some epoxy on so they are ready to get some filler on tomorrow and primer.
Other to-do's tomorrow after work: bumpers, gril and side-skirts prep with plastic primer and a coat of primer (I have too few hours in a day) :thumb:

Well, been a while here but no good news to bring...

After not getting the car finished for Billing due to a mistake at the sprayer, I continued afterwards to get it done on a slower pace...
Re-spraying will happen at a leter stage after the rest of the car has been built up to get some minor issue's out of the way...

After working some weeks on the engine getting all connected and hooked up, we went for the 1st start:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYcASEvt2ME

Woohoow! Victory!...

Not at all, I suspected a little knock on the side of the belt but thinking it was perhaps the lack of heat and the oil not getting to all places at once. So hopefully it would go away after a few days of running it warm, cool down, run again... and so on 'till the oil got to all places...

But the day after, still a little knock...

So I started listening with the screwdriver and the knock was deffo more on the first cyl.
So a compression test would bring more clearance...

And it did, the first cyl. had 6 bar, the other more then 10!
So thinking I was going forward, it's back again.

Another good side of the story, now I can do a decent rebuild.
Only thing I'm not sure of is that I'm going to rebuild my C16SE with head and al other parts of the E16 as they are ok...

But hey, the quality will get better in this way hopefully. Now the motivation is a bit lost but we'll get there. Someday... :(

Okey, let's move on!

After our meeting (with some time needed to prep) I moved back into the garage and started thinkering...

The C16SE engine is in but I want it to work with all the E16SE parts (injection, exhaust, ECU, etc)
But with the timing belt and spanner kept from the C-type...
But we have a DIS module on the C so started to dismantel it from the engine and removed the blanking plate and guess what (probably nothing new for some of you):

a whole where my distributor fits in!
But in the camshaft from the C16, there's some sort of marble in there and not in the E16 camshaft... So tomorrow my job will be to try and get it out of there so the distributor goes in as far as needed...

With marble (C16SE)
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/michalak690.jpg

Without (E16SE)

http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd150/Michalak5/Phase%202/michalak691.jpg

Ready to be built together again...

Finally got back here after a better-to-forget time...

Not been doing much to the Michalak but a few weeks ago, it started tingling again in the fingers...

The engine idled ok but when warm, dead... So sorted that out with another ECU with AFM. Works like a charm now.
Then started to install all the missing parts and so, after 6 years, the first road test was done yesterday. Stopped at a local pub for a coffe and had some attention from old people...
"You are lucky it's on oldtimer plates as you will never get an MOT on your self-built convertible!"...
Euhm, yeah, self built... NOT :d

The brakes were sticking but sorted that too, interior is in, just enough to get it decent as the good one is still in my shed.
So August 2nd, it will be off to homologation and hopefully I will get a green light...
And then back to the paint shop again to get a new coat on to get the perfect finish after sorting out the little flaws.

Well, summer days are almost over... But we had some fun the last few weeks/months with the Michalak...
Took it out for some spins and above 4K rev's go quick. And only hit the limiter once (untill now)

Not much done outer then try some other wheels for easy driving... Well, easy is an understatement...
Found a picture when I was at an oldie meet:

http://www.oldtimerweb.be/pictures/reportages/03320/3320_veerle-heide-2013-106.jpg

And for the ones who want to know: BMW E30 alloy's 6x14 ET35something with 155-55 flaps of rubber lol
They are way too small when revving above the 4K :d

More to come, but first get my new mancave built for winter... Then the new plans will start on this one

Well Scott, I hope to get there with this one for beers and bbq.
Right now I'm focussing on a new home for the cars and then the Michalak will get a respray and some new parts. So IF all goes well, it will be the first meet in finished condition ;)

To give you guys a heads-up why this is so silent at the moment... :d

Well, as said somewhere before: I'm building a new cave for the cars...
Never done any construction works, only electrics so all new for me...
Started to brake down the place in August and opening in hopefully a few weeks from now

The before:

To be working in IT and never to have done any construction works, I think I'm getting the hang of it lol

Hopefully done with plastering before the year's end...

Thanks Benn. The previous garage wasn't big enough anymore... The Michalak, the MK1 and the old Citroen all have to be in a warm place... And off course, too much tools :)

A "small" update here: the new mancave is almost finished...

Plastering done, electrics done, new workbench made...

Still to do: more storage sollutions, plumbing, more (power)tools, wheel wall...

But as always, pictures are worth more then... :)

5 meters of work bench:

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/t31/1655667_10203090439040723_67602147_o.jpg

Some of the tools already in place (no, I don't use the duster for the cars lol)...

https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/t31/883000_10203177719262674_1492991801_o.jpg

The old gall gets uncovered bit by bit...

https://scontent-a-ams.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/t31/1618212_10203177719782687_564740441_o.jpg

And ok, I admit, it's all because of this little lady...:

But first to drive way to be rebuilt again...
More to come ;)

Hey Tom, very nice garage. I hope, we see us this year again :) Billing? ;)

Or if you want to see the new corsa in action
19.7. Weeze AC Mülheim

20.7. Meinerzhagen RG Oberberg

:d

Where is "the King" corsa?

CorsaBBoomer
18-02-14, 02:36 PM
Thanks Benn, they WILL get a polish as they are becomming rare as f**k in this size (7x14ET25 with MLK-tuning caps)...

Hey Marcel, yes and yes! :d I will surely come and assist (if I may put my hands on the new one) and we will have to start with all bookings for Billing. But I'm going to Steve on Saturday so will hear what he has to say.

Josefien is sleeping outside for the moment untill the drive-way is done as she is too low to get in. Hope to get to Risse next month (April latest) with the Michalak ;)

The Wheel Wall:

Dude! Wtf lol
Ive seen most of these on your cars, but not seen the p slots, get them gone to good dubbers home lol
What's all the splits from/for? Just different spacings for the blue ones?

CorsaBBoomer
27-03-14, 08:59 PM
lol Yeah mate, I know. And that's why they have no markings on them anymore. All the dub-logo's have been sanded down and polished. Got a good deal so that's why they are there...
The split's, well, the black half are of my first set from my Corsa B. They are ET15's but too wide for a Nova (with normal arches) so bought a second set (gold) in ET33 and then started playing with the outer half's of BBS RM's as they are 0.5 inch and original OZ are 1 inch.
But the best is yet too come... Perhaps at Billing ;)

Benn

Love the silver 5 spokes closest to the camera.

CorsaBBoomer
28-03-14, 08:15 AM
Thanks Benn but they are for sale... Too wide for the rear (8x14 ET15)
Bought them with a wild head as I wanted to make it look lite in the old days... But that would mean widening the arches again which is a big no-go for me :)
