Ok, heres my second on going project. I basically wanted a project car for my years at university that wouldnt cost me too much. So it started with a donation of a shell from my friend and a few other bits. I took the chance and picked the shell up and took it to my friends yard. From here i was offered a 20seh engine from a mk2 astra gte convertable that had seen better days. Also the friend whos yard the car is now at owns a racing team which the car will be in the livery of. The following pictures will kind of show the direction of the car will be going in.

This is the car shortly after it being picked up. All bumpers and wings were taken off so i could check for rust. Was very happy with it as there is minimal rust bar one arch.

This is the engine ready to go in the car, however im considering motorbike carbs for it and need to save for a mount kit.

And this is the astra that the engine came from, which has seen better days to say the least. The guys were going to get rid of it and offered the engine to go in the nova making this a very cheap build

Heres he under wing stripped and then sealed as i dont want it too rust too quickly

The general theme for the car is going to be a semi-euro look. Smoothed gte bumpers, astra gte drivers mirror and blanking plate for passenger side. Ive also lined up some vectra sideskirts that i think fit the theme of smoothed bumpers but im unsure???

If you plan to take it on track, I have to agree. Most tracks will ask you to overtake on the left, and Id feel a tad weary overtaking someone with no passenger mirror.

Fair play on the euro look though, you could make up a blanking plate so you can easily add the mirror for track days etc :)

The one wing mirror was on it when i got it and liked the idea of keeping it on. But for track days will probably just put a standard mirror on then swap back to blanking plate after

On the subject of mirrors, I've removed both my wing mirrors and am going to fit a wide angle rear view mirror that i've got from tweeks. It will look great having a mirror about 17 inches wide but will fit in with my OAP imagelol
They are extremely effective - you can see literally from the rear of one front side window right round to the other one

So havnt had a lot of time lately, only thing ive really done is cut out firewall for more breathing with the carbs. Car is an hour away and been working long shifts and staying away a lot. However i have got the money together to get the engine in. Had a lot of ideas about different little thing i can do. Thought about blanking off fuel cap and smoothing over and relocating it to the boot with the "funnel" into the fuel being just up against tailgate. Also unsure about what to do with dash. Will be stripped but obviously need something with speedo in. Anyone got pics of any cars that have a nice stripped out dash area?

So ive had a few days to do a couple of little bits as i booked whole week for my exam resits.

Ive been sorting out the bodywork and getting it ready for paint then should go back at weekend to carry on with rest of it

Nearly finished smoothing front bumper over. Just needs a few areas rubbing down

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w199/andrew_2882/CIMG0239.jpg

Smoothed over the lock on the boot as well as the windscreen wiper. Properly welded and then filled in. First time ive done this so quite chuffed tbh

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w199/andrew_2882/CIMG0245.jpg

Also cut the fire wall out for more air for the carbs :D

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w199/andrew_2882/CIMG0244.jpg

To go with the smoothed theme the fuel filler cap has also been smoothed over. Only problem is now i dont know where to put it?

Any suggestions? Current picks are door shut, b-piller, boot and personal favourite the roof

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w199/andrew_2882/CIMG0247.jpg

As i decided a long time ago for a side exit exhaust i felt i should get rid of the exhaust cut out on the bumper to urge me on lmao. So plastic was put in the cut outs place and fillered to ensure it stays smooooth

http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w199/andrew_2882/CIMG0250.jpg

And heres the racing 924 looking a bit sad for itself awaiting re-spray, should look top notch when done

as always any comments welcome, especially about fuel cap as need to make mind up quick!

yeah, ive seen it done a few times in the door shut. Shouldnt be too hard to do anyway. I do like the idea of it in the roof though as never seen it before

Havnt done anything to this car for ages! But progress should start again soon. Got a road car together so can start putting more effort and time into this. Got a wanted ad if anyone can help?

So im no longer having the big block engine and opting for a c16xe. Seems to go alright in a corsa so should be better in a nova. Decided to go for the fuel filler in the roof, seems like the obious place!

Anyway, will update this as and when things get done

Not really an update but im bored.

So ive been buying bits here and there to get the shell rolling properly and to get engine fitted and running.

Waiting on Corsa servo and pedal, shafts, mounts, 288 brakes, tie bars, bottom arms and possibly suspension

Been toying with ideas here and there about what i can actually do with the car from there?

I have a few queries that may help.

Is a roll cage essential? I know it stiffens the shell but would strut braces do a decent enough job for a light use track car or is it more of a safety issue?

Steel wheels? What are the weight comparisons compared to normal vaux alloys? Need to fit over 288s and fit track tyres too.

How much does a spare wheel well actually weigh? Is there much point in removing it?
