Does Oil Read Under Or Over When Its Hot On The Dipstick

i would have thout over as it would exspand but if the car has just finished running it'll be lower as oil is still around the engine

i do but we had a problem with my mates corsa last nite when we checked itv wasnt showing any oil on the stick an it kicked off an argument, because we had just pulled in i was tryin to tell them that it would read lower even though its warm brcause the oil was around the engine and not settled, i know it not showing on the dipstick at all meant it was using oil but it wasnt as bad as they thought

Yes it will read lower because it takes a minute or two for the oil to return to the sump.

but it will read more after it has settled and is warm.

The dipstick should have been fully coated when you removed it at first, if it wasnt, it would have been horribly low lol
