another international thread lol

my first nova, drove it like this for about 1 year, 1.4 power:

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/opdekapzk.jpg

then i bought a donor 2.0 16v nova, outside was really good, the guy just had placed 2 new doors without locks, new boot, new frontwings,
complete new rear panels (from the roof down!!) and a ful respray 2 years ago. only he never looked under the car.. rusty as hell.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/p4300041wm5.jpg

only my 'f.uck airride additude cost me the XE lol hit the oil pan at 130 km/h..

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/Foto158.jpg

the 1.4 corsa was already stripped completely, so only had to strip the XE corsa for his good parts.

stripping the xe..

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0786.jpg

it also had some front damage in a earlyer life

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0788.jpg

xe less..

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0789.jpg

brought the 1.4 chassis out from storage for some work

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0795.jpg

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0801.jpg

the engine bay is seam-welded, also a new tophalve front is fitted (the light things and the thing the bonnet locks in)

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0802.jpg
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0803.jpg

the red stuff is some kind of industrial ship primer, sea ships dont rust under the waterline.. so it has to work on a nova tolol

it also needed a new arch, friend of mine did that for me a i suck in welding

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0813.jpg

also checked the full underside of the car for rust, and every little rust is removed :)

also pulled the old XE out, it was really focked

http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh57/youri_corsa/Foto214.jpg
http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh57/youri_corsa/Foto213.jpg

then sprayed the engine bay matt black

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0824.jpg

mayhem
23-05-08, 03:44 PM
test fitted the bonnet and the old wings

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0833.jpg

than sanded down everything.. that job sucks:wtf:

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0844.jpg
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0841.jpg

bought a new XE, it ran 166.000 km, comes out a fully stock calibra, it even had the original tailpipe, original wheels and suspension.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0864.jpg

also bought 280 degrees schrick cams, group A exhaust, 5kg flywheel

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0880.jpg
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0885.jpg

also placed 80mm rear springs

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0869.jpg

mayhem
23-05-08, 03:55 PM
sprayed the engine and some parts, also matt black:)

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0883.jpg
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0893.jpg

i'm only still waiting for my arp2000 bolts... orderd them almost 2 moths ago @ chris astley, and still recieved nothing:mad: must be hard to send something to the netherlands.

test fitted my wheels, doesnt quite fitlol 14 inch borbet T in 7j et25 with 185-50-14 tyres. going to be banded sr steelie's though.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0904.jpg

so had to mod the arches, euro style:thumb:

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0920.jpg

and today my coilovers arrived, i'm fitting them tonight. and than roll out the new front wings.

it gets a gte rear bumper and i orderd a snowplough for the front.
bumpers wont be painted, the car will be blue with a black and white checkerd roof, banded sr steelie's.

interiour will be stripped out/track style, 2 buckets and a rollcage. removed everyting as sound proofening is just useless weight.

Made a mess of that XE sump didn't you! Can't believe how rotten that turrent is!

Rexy
24-05-08, 10:20 AM
I dunno why but i loveeee the euro look, it rules :D

can't wait to see this bad boy all done and painted.

mayhem
24-05-08, 10:53 AM
i sort of did didn't i lol this time where making a metal plate under the oil pan, this is not going to happen again.

i spoke to the guy i bought it from, he also swapped it to XE, and all he said whas that he didn't know about the turrent.. yeah right, like you dont check for rust when you swap it.

my coillovers

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0921.jpg

fitted them yesterday.. and the front arches need some work to lol

Liking the wheels, are the rear arches easy to mod for them?

im sorry, but thats just fecking dangerous, im suprised when you hit the sump that the suspension didnt part with that car. thats insne

yours looks good tho mate, is it going to be a euro type or what we call normal lol :thumb:

Lee
24-05-08, 02:06 PM
lol, in two pics your sat ont he bonnet or stood on the roof. How the hell did you not dent them?

mayhem
24-05-08, 07:21 PM
there are more bonnet pics.. just ask lynz lol

sitting on the bonnet is easy, just sit in the back, about where the firewall is.
we even sat on it with 4 guys and 1 on the roof and not denting anything lol

the roof standing was the old chassis, so that didn't matter :P

@steve: rear arch modding took about 1 hour to do. i know a guy who works in a wheelshop, he did it for me. it's not that hard, only cause i wnat low and wide, he really had to go for it, pieces of painted chipped of :P

didnt do much today, a friend does the welding, so have to wait for him for the last things.
bootgrab goes away, the antenne hole in the roof and finish the plate for the cav shifter.

Lynsey
24-05-08, 08:53 PM
lol

"I send her my sexiest pic- sat on the bonnet and all she says is 'what's up with the camber'"...

That was a pic on the mk1 though :D

mayhem
28-05-08, 09:40 PM
lol i had a lot of fun with the mk1, stupid wheel colour, red bonnet, everybody thought it just was a old piece of crap..untill the light turned green lol

still going for the mk1 look :)

picked up the snowplough today, i itsn't mint, but its better than nothing ;)
saterday hopefully my mate does the last piece of welding for me, and if my arp bolds arrive tomorrow, i can fit the engine :)

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c341/mayhem22/SP_A0004.jpg

i have a private bumper collection now, 2 gte rear bumpers, gte front bumper, mk2 bumpers, mk1 bumper and now the snowplough.. and 1 nova lol

Jack
28-05-08, 09:53 PM
I love that bumper :D

paulnova

Lol at using ship primer...makes perfect sence tho lol

mayhem
02-06-08, 09:22 PM
i bought a daily drive for 250 euro lol

needed new brakes and the backbox is leaking. i had a remus from my old nova, so fitted that, and also had some 2.0 brakes, so also placed that.
and i'm afraid of hights, so placed my old 60-60 set.

she isn't pretty, she isn't fast (c12nz) but there's almost no rust on the important places.

lol, thats the general gerrit.

http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=hm4-xywMNSY

my mate bought it for 100 euro with a full year of mot, we painted it orange with normal wallpaint, painted 01 on the sides and dutch flag on the roof.

a wannabe impreza spoiler made of wood, and a inpreza scoop on the bonnet :P

just acting stupid and having fun:thumb:

looks good Joop. I should make a tread of my Nova to, but haven't got any pics

mayhem
29-06-08, 12:47 PM
you should make one, mine is just boring compared to youre nova build.

mayhem
05-07-08, 12:30 PM
the reason i normally dont do project threads.. i always forget to udate them lol

anyway.. the orange vectra A is wrecked.. we rolled it over with 50 mph... so its kinda roofchopt.

the xe is al wired up, it just wont start :S
it has spark, you can hear the fuel pump, there's just no fuel @the rail.

must be something stupid like a empty tank, so need to check that out today.

mayhem
05-07-08, 06:35 PM
she started today :D as i thought, she just needed some juice ;)

ran great, until a oil cooler line decided he didnt want to be part of the engine lol. and offcourse that happens when al the shops are already closed...

mayhem
17-07-08, 12:10 PM
havent done much, although most of the work is done. she still needs painting and some other small things, but where getting there :)

Nice job on the wheels, I take it they'll fit ok under stretched arches? Or is it a case of 'making them fit' lol

mayhem
17-07-08, 12:41 PM
there wider than my arches lol my arches where modded to fit a 185 tyre on a 7j wheel, so with a 185 tyre on these there wont be a problem.

ive orderd 2 195-45-14 tyres to test them in the rear, i know i can clear them in front, just unsure about the back.

hoping that fits.. 195-45-14 is 30 euro a tyre cheaper than 185-50-14, and there much more brands available.

mayhem
29-07-08, 06:15 PM
dropped 2 wheels back off at the welder, wasn't happy with the welding job he did.

full stainless steel exhaust is fitted. the dash and cav shifter is all back in place and working. painted the underside of the bonnet in the same colour as the engine bay. hoping to get the outside painted somewhere next week :D

some global pics of the project as it stands now.

i thought about jamaica yellow, but i didn't think it would look great with the mat black and white roof.

also painted the bonnet mat black with intention to have a pinstriping on it in the future.

i brought 2 wheels back to the welder as the didn't where welded correctly. so hoping to get them back somewhere this week and paint them mat black with a small white lip. to get the whitewall idea when driving :)

good news is that the nova is all painted, and i'm planning to fit the bumpers tonight.

the outside of the car is ready :D just need to fit 1 mirror. and the windows, but as i'm using a welded cage, i cant fit them untill the cage is done.

a small change in the plans for the rollcage. we werent to happy with how things ware made, so decided to keep the front end and the mid section (the roll bar) and make a custom rear section.
a mate of mine offerd to do that, so i'll have to wait till he's got time for that.

i took her out for a small spin tonight round the industrial area, no windows or working lights lol feels good to drive XE again lol

Dod, it's been done before, I mean bringing Nova's over to mainland Europe. Back in 2001 I've had this http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94324 Nova over for more than 1 year.

my cristmas sucks!

this afternoon the 16v decided to blowe a coolant hose, and just 15 minutes ago i wrecked the 1.2...

in an attemp to avoid an object on the road i crashed into a fairly high curb with about 15/20 mp/h.
thanx to it being a high curb it was full impact on the front cross member.. left front wheel is stuck to the rear of the wheelarch, and there's no drive on the wheels anymore, i can put it in gear and step out with the car still idlling.
driver door doenst open cause the front wing is pushed backwards, and bonnet doesnt open anymore to..

just unsure what to buy now... the astra mk3, golf mk1 or a mk2 nova.

the golf has no mot, needs little work for mot, and when fixed is worth good money.
the nova just had a new mot, and the astra has about 7 months mot left.

nova's are great fun, but a golf mk1 is uber retro. the astra, well, its just an astra..

no, just a 1600 glx, so with all the chrome strips. light brownish colour.
its from '82, so here in holland that makes it an oldtimer. meaning: no tax, and really cheap insurance.
and the most important.. its the old mk1, so it has the short taillights. uber oldschool.

hello mate just read through this and is lookin very good. love the steelies. When you stretched the arches did you just knock them out with a hammer and then filler over the top with body filler? Also to make the banded steelies do you cut the rim behind the face/spokes or in front? Then weld back togetha with say a 3" wide plate around them? cheers dave

mayhem
02-02-09, 07:06 PM
the arches are just rolled mate. lip is folded back and then just start rolling them.

there are loads of companys here who do banded steelies, its not a DIY job imo.

erm.. just rolled, bodyshops can do that to. its with some kind of special tool.

there is a uk shop who does banded steelies, i just cant come up with there name.
basicly the wheel is cut in half about where the face is welded to the 'rim', and a piece of metal is welded in between.

na, just googled it lol

i know a guy who works for a wheel compagny, so he did my arches for a few quid with a simular device.

i'd start rollering when youre wheels are ready, so that you know how far you need to go ;)
i dont like filler on the arches, if you didnt roll them out far enough (or just using a wrong tyresize) and the scrape seriously, you can end up with chipping the filler and paint of.

my driversside had a new arch, so that needed filler, but the other side has no filler, just primer and paint, and there no dents.

front arches are a little trickyer to roll, there not as strong as the rear ones, the dent easely. also the end up looking weird if youre going to wide on them. you can even feel the difference with OEM front wings and cheap imitation wings while rollering them.

Looks really cool on those wheels, are they just for show use or you using them all the time?

Also what was the name of the grey you used on the bumpers? Looks almost original.

mayhem
22-02-09, 12:30 PM
wheels are for daily use.

i used a rattlecan from motip, motip bumperspray, iirc i used the medium grey. its weird stuff to spray, its almost water.

http://winkel.verf24.nl/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=630

this is the stuff i used, any motip dealer here can order it/has it in stock.
price in the link is sh!t btw, i just orderd it at the local motip dealer.
iirc it was about 6 euro a can. i used about 1 can a bumper.

we have a shop called halfords. I think it was set up by our government as a place for chavs to go & work.... their bumper paint is either black, or light grey & is really not gm colour..

I have emailed motip to see if they sell it in England

the little blue basterd had his dyno remapp today :)

i'm losing some horsies due to running with dr. schrick cams with stock toothed wheels. but the powerband is a nice even line, from 5000 to 7000 rpm it stayes about the same. rev limeter is set at 7600 rpm.
final outcome is just under 150 wheel hp.

lol

for those who have a problem with the 1.4 fact.. untill a few months ago it was very difficult to get an conversion licensed. we could only dream of rules like in the UK. now the rules have changed, and it's getting done quickly.

didnt realise i had it since 2006! it's almost mot time aswell lol

@ade: cant duick order the surrounds? there very very hard to find.

@damen: the pics make it look better, it's not build for show, its for the 1/4 mile and trackfun. but it will be at vag-opel show this year.
lynz always wanted me to come over for PV, but if i do that, it's most likely with my mk1 astra.
buckets and a stripped out nova isnt the best way to travel a few hundred miles ;)

The weight of a head unit and speakers is very tiny, have a dump before you got out and you'll shave some off...
