View Full Version : xe turbo
got a spare xe and a corsa shell in my garage that in my garage i forgot i had and i just came across a turbo, manifold and exhaust from an old calibra turbo i scrapped, would i be able to fit the turbo to the standard xe or would it just spit its pistons at me,
cant be bothered takin engine apart i just want to see what itd go like for a laugh,

You wont be able to just bolt on the turbo, as you will ned ecu, loom, injectors, pistons and plus you need to drill an tap the block for a start to the oil returns / feeds for the turbo other it will lock up within seconds.

and the comp ratio is too high to run any kind of worthwhile boost that justifies the work done above.
cars already got aftermarket manegement anyway (omex) got alibra turbo injectors sorting the oil feed isnt a problem just wondered if the compression would cope with a turbo at lowish boost or would i need to lower it

obviously lowering it would be advantageous and it would cope on 'lowish' boost but it would be less effort to build a higher power NA XE than to butcher a low pressure LET hybrid.
cams are different too, but at such a weeny boost i dont think youl notice anyway.

Chip has been here & done this. The ignition curve is quite an issue if bodging it on XE management.
If you really must do it, bolt the head & turbo + cams etc onto an 8v NE bottom end. Its been done to good effect.
whats the difference between an xe and an ne bottom end then? because ive got a turbo conversion for an 8v 2ltr as well with a escort rs t3
NE is much lower compression
ne is 8v so the xe head wont fit on that bottom end..
with a decent intercooler 10psi would be about the limit. so you could push it to around c20let power but not anymore... or u could just buy a thicker steel headgasket to help drop the compression ratio a little..

The NE and XE block is exactly the same IIRC

edit: found link.
edit edit: not that really helps. :tard: lol
yes they are. just that xe's use forged pistons iirc, with a flat top, whereas ne ones are dished, if you can look at vaux-extreme.co.uk
if i was to use the turbo on the ne engine and keep it 8 v how much work would it be would i need a management system or could i get away with standard ecu

You could use the std ECU, you will need to raise the fuel pressure so it can keep up at high revs/under boost.
My advice is look/read/ask on the vaux extreme link on page 1. That site is all about home made 8v turbos...
thanks for that will look now
just vaux trev

/\ and if ya dont use the 8v turbo bits you got i may be interested in buying the lot off you pm price
