Right, I've put an X14XE into my Nova, but unfortunately I havent got the Key Chip or Transponder for it, cant get it and havent gotten the chassis number or any other details for the Donor Car (Corsa Sport).

I contacted Vauxhall/Opel about this and was told that if I supply a transponder, key chip and the ECU, they can be wiped and reprogramed to run together.

So I gathered all parts concerned and recontacted Vauxhall/Opel and was then told, no you cant do that. http://www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk/images/smilies/rolleyesanim.gif

So I managed to locate a 1.4 16v Astra, and have secured the Brain, Key Chip and Transponder. But will this run my engine? As far as i mind the Astras were a Z14XE or some form of alternative.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The Astra is a 99 or 00, but iirc the engine is a Z14XE as opposed to the X14XE I have.

the difference will probably be in the mapping, fuel/timing maps may be different to suit different emissions standards, but thats just a guess. it will probably run, but dont know exactly how performance will be affected.

If you brought a ecu, could you still use the transpoder and chip you have now?

Dod

See I have the ECU, its the Key and Transponder I dont have.

Is there anywhere other than Vauxhall that can remap these?

vauxhall can recode all 3 to match, i beleive you will have to get the car towed to them so they can do it with it all n situe..

i assume your ecu plugs are RED and WHITE the non imobilised ecu's have RED and BEIGE/CREAM colour connectors, but the ecu plug will need a trim to fit..

the later astra z14xe ecu will not fit. you will have to phone around and find an ecu which has the same colour connectors and then obviously get the matching chip and stransponder...

Find a very early Corsa SRi 16v ecu. Its none immobilised

Will that work alright?

Adam

Yep
Might need just swap the knock sensor wires as early and late had the wires changed around for some reason.

like i said the connector is diffarent, it is not a direct swap. you will have to trim a locating tab off of the connector for it to fit in a non imobiliser ecu. lke i said above, the plugs on the loom and ecu are colour coded and will only fit colour to colour whch is why u have to modify the plug for it to fit..

Sp how does the wiring work, is it a case of pairing colour to colour?

ck

no no. the ecu plugs themselves are diffarent colours. say u bought a new ecu and the socket on it is a diffarent colour to your plugs then they wont fit...

Just a thought but you may like to consider fitting an aftermarket programmable ecu? Ok its gonna be more expensive than you originally were probably expecting to spend but it will allow you to bypass the present issues plus it will give you flexibility to alter the state of tune and have a much faster car than with std stuff. If you fit a better exhaust system and get a home made induction tube made up to you can have a seriously powerful engine without having to change much else bar giving it a decent rolling road session. Additionally the ECU will retain its value regardless of what car its in should you decide to change motors and can be fitted to any modern engine.

I bought a bog std DTA ECU and had it fitted successfully to my 1.4 for a fair few years. During that time I was able to change the tune and get the most out of my engine and set it for how i wanted it to run. Now I've broken that engine its come out and is now running MC's 1.6 16v and has allowed him to run a different map. Overall its represented good value over the time we have owned it.

How much do these work out at? Is it specifically for injection cars or Carb'd items?

ck

imo its not worth the bother at all unless you are 100% wanting to go TB's or some major tuning at a later date..

for a stand alone management system you would be looking at around £500 upwards for the ecu/loom with base map. then gonna cost you easy few hundred more for a full map to your engine.

easiest is to get another ecu/transonder/chip for under £50...

quite a diffarence in price there too lol

if u need help wiring the transponder up just ask as i have done many of them now..

Why?
Mappable management on a mantzel'd 1400/1600 16v would work bloody well IMO.
Single throttles can work pretty well too, not always the need for multiple ;)

Well when you allow for a budget the Ecotec ECU seems to be the cheaper option by far!! Anyone got a spare one? Or wheres the best place to get one?

Sweeeet, both sellers just emailed. Cheers mate!!

the one thats ends shortly is a non imobilised one wheras the other is but that has transponder n chip..

remember for a direct fit the plugs have gotto the same colour as the ones on
your loom.

i.e imobilised ecu has red and white plugs
non imobilised ecu has red and beige/cream plugs

if u get one with the wrong colour then u will have to trim a small piece off the loom connector to allow it to plug into the ecu..

Cheers Chris, but I'm going to chance the whole kit one for £55.

At least then I still have my Imobiliser in tact. I'll keep you all posted.

bear in mind that with aftermarket management it will lose 30% of its value (max)..... so technically you dont really lose out like you would with the 16xe ecu.
