Just been messing with headunit settings for the lack of anything else to do. And I wondered if the LOUD function on Kenwood headunits is worth having on, or whether to turn it off and adjust the equaliser without it.

I know personal taste comes into it alot, but i've got a feeling that the LOUD function is one of them cheapo functions that bad boys would use to get more noise. I've got a 4x50w max HU, standard speakers in front, a set of 50w RMS Sony 6x9's, attatched to a JVC 2x75w RMS amp.

on kenwood headunits the loud button adds about 10 to 15 db gain ie, bass mid an treble not advisable wit stanard speakers as u could over drive the standerd speakers popin them

Here is mine.

This doesn't really show the quality of the bass but more the loudness of it.

People don't expect it to be this bassy but it really is deafening.

Oh and this is some chavtastic tune i found through youtube on the other kicker videos. Links to them - http://youtube.com/watch?v=nWaz6bs5p3I&feature=related & http://youtube.com/watch?v=a_ms0M8dzhw

So downloaded the song and here it is in mine.

Sorry about the skippy vid.

i personally wud run no loud u need to level out the eq settins to standard then reduce bass -db trebles tricky as u have 6x9s therre rather tinny sound so +db but not to much wen this is done u need to set input gain on the amp to level them with your fronts not been rude in how ive just wrote this its hard to explain in text lol just wondered wat your knowledge of sterios is like hope this helps chap

Cheers, it sounds like you have good knowledge. Is the input gain, the 2 small screw type things that go from 0.1v to 1v? I've never messed with them, so they are both on 0.1v. I thought, as the amp is 25w over powering the pseakers RMS anyway, that I should just leave it as low as it can go. Any more gain could mean them blowing? Should I try and adjust them?

no mate not if u wanna blow things up as u say the input gains on your amp is a voltage regulator not a volume control like some people think it depends on the head unit so if u turn them up u could push to much voltage down the lines up to roughly 4.5 v which would be bad blowing resitors so the way to set up the gain . first thing turn the gain on your amp to lowest setting then on your head unit set all eq levels to 0 (default setting), then once every thing is set to this get a all round tune on turn head unit to 3/4 volume no more, then wile tune playin turn input gain up very slowly till its to loud or very slightly distorted turn it back slighty this should level your amp input to that of the head unit hope it helps i was about 7 when i had first sub now 31 lol stone deaf but still lovin installs .

oh an the two small screw things u described one is input gain the other is frequency response it depends wat line your using low or high input on amp i would take a guess u using the high input for full range speakers if so the range should be 50hz to 1.2khz the higher u go means less bass more treble response so will sound tinny anymore advice just postme no worries
