View Full Version : 1.4sr Cams into my 1.2 Standard 8v

As title says guys i have been reading the tuning guide in articles and i wanted to know if the 1.4sr cams fit into my 1.2 Mk1 8v if so how easy is this?

Yes they do, but you also need to swap the dizzy and coil as the 1.4 cam has a different dizzy drive on it.

Turn the engine to TDC, remove the cambelt, dizzy and cambelt pully(lock the other end of the cam to do this), then undo/remove the plate that holds the cam in place in the dizzy end. The one valve at a time use a spring compressor/valve removal tool thingy to press the rockers/followers/valves down off the cam lobes so that you can remove the cam. Fitting is the same process in reverse.

If the head has to come off for any other reason, just switch the cam carriers and ignition at the same time, and you can skim the cam carrier to gain slightly more lift.

couldnt you just fit a 1.4 head, rocker box and all the internals?

the 1.4 head (if carbed or SPI) has square and crap ports that wont line up right with the 1.2 carb inlet manifold.

Velos when they were running reckoned on a 5bhp gain on a 1.2 with the 1.3 cam in it... not bad for a part that costs fcuk all
