Hi everyone, i been searching all over the site for help on the subject, but i couldnt find anything. So sorry if this is a repost.

Basicaly i have been looking all over the interweb trying to find some sort of non-chavtastic performance exhaust and air filter for my nova.....which is a 1.0 btw lol, i no it might sound stupid, but you cant blame me for wanting more power right?

So if anyone has any advice (bar the whole "get a bigger engine" nutshell) or if you could point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appretiated!

Thanks again everyone!:thumb:

To be honest, there wouldn't be much point trying to find performance mods for a 1.0. You could probably spend £350 on a custom exhaust and gain pretty much nothing.

I wont say about swapping for a bigger engine but how about spending the same money on better brakes and suspension? Although it wont make any difference in a straight line, you'll definatly be able to carry more speed through bends and brake later ;)

IIRC there is a thread in the articas section as to how to fit a K&N Or similar.

But if it was me, i would just put a bigger engine in, I know you said you dont want any of this rubbish, But its a 1litre! Your not going to get much more power!

Sadly the answer is fit a bigger engine, its cost hardly no money and its easy. If you really want to tune the 1lt your just wiping your **** on your money.

When i was building my 1litre for formula1000 i fitted a bolt on K&N and straight through exhaust. Had the carb rejetted and tuned as well. Went well...

But unless there's a purpose don't worry. Put a tidy back box on it and be happy! Give it a year get a 1.3 engine or bigger.

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies.
I can see where your all coming from (and i am looking into upgrading the engine size, but it wont be for at least a year or 2, due to insurance and my age)
I done a search on POTN.COM and found this air filter :

Sounds pretty good to me , and looks like a good price. Opinions?
Thanks for your help everyone.

I've got a K&N on my 1.0, I had the carb tuned aswell but it was to get emissions down for MOT. You don't really need a full exhaust system because theres no CAT as standard, and the middle silencer is tiny. I made a straight through back box from a cherrybomb, pretty loud but hey I'm 17 lol

p.s. I'm getting a 1.3 ohc out of a mk2 astra in the near future:thumb:

No one makes a full system for a 1L
So your stuck with just a fancy backbox.

Get yourself some good tyres, brakes and suspension, then ditch any unneeded weight from the interior.

Same as really, you'd be better off spending money on suspension and brakes now and living with the 1.0 Not a bad thing though, I learnt to drive in a 1.0 and kept it for two trouble free years, just remember to change the points and condenser otherwise it wont run right if you cane it like I did.

You will see no gain with a k&n, you'd be better off just spending the money on service items for it :thumb:

make an intake manifold for it and stick a 1.2 or larger carb on it. that manifold couldnt be simpler.

air filters are bad on those engines as the carb ices.

you could also get a step key and advance the cam a few degrees, and remove the head and do a full de-coke and lightly port the head. you cant advance the std timing too much from std as it starts to pink quite badly under load.

if its an old engine the simplest way to gain a few horses is to remove the pistons and fit new rings and grind in the valves...then set the tappets

the carb is probably the biggest bottle neck for that engine.

have fun

all these engine mods are going to make your insurance go up more than if you fitted a bigger engine anyway.
