Been to the scrap yard this morning to weigh in some metal we had collected at work, we had some right hefty girders and I wasnt expecting much for them. But it turns out scrap for steel / iron has gone through the roof, I got £266 per ton when only a few months ago it was about £60-£80 per ton.
I would watch out for gypo's robbing everything left right an centre seeing as its fetching some serious money.
Think I need to go for drive an find me loads of dumped scrap.
Yeah the scrap prices have gone mad, Stainless steel here is £900 a ton!

I'm in the recovery game and are on good terms with a local crap merchant, last week I weighed in:
1 Renault 19 16v
1 Fiat Punto
3 1970's Land Rovers
1 Nova
1 Polo
1 Astra
3 washing machines
a cooker
aswell as a few other bits and made about £1300 in my pocket. The pikeys round this way are out in force in anything with a HIAB, they took £50k's worth of brand new unused Armco, 9 digger buckets, 3 £10k reels of copper cable, a skip, and about 20 old lampposts off a few of our bases!
I been on the hunt about for scrap, found a few of the old grass rollers laying about so i'll be off to uplift them later ( I have got the owners consent :)).
Some of the lads that so the recovery alongside me are buying old cars off customers when the break down for anything up to £50 then weighing them in for more at the merchants.......
I been using a few tips to get more money aswell which helps haha

always weigh the alloys in separately if you can ;-)
In my line of work (railway) were always having copper cable and old rails go missing. Mostly copper cable. One instance, we installed 800 yards of cable, 2 hours later it was gone. Pikeys on quad bikes cut it at both ends, tied one end to a quad and drove off with it, dragging it out the trackside troughing. big big problem.
They've been stealing street signs (40 mph signs etc) and also manhole covers

For a set of four TSW stealths i got £86, but when we took them down there they wanted the tyres off so had to call my mate (mobile tyre fitter) up to come remove them so gave him a 10er. Down the seafront all the public toilets and what not have lead roofs and people have tryed removing them a couple of times. what has the best price per ton? steel, stainless, copper, lead.....?
