Just for future reference, do insurance companies charge more for a 16v 2.0 over an 8v?

Or do they just think "its a 2.0...lets av im" ?? lol

yeah 8v is cheaper you can tell by the perfomance figures and how popular the car or engine is. my mates 20 and he got a 5.7l dodge ram insured for £780 and his fiesta zetec s was £1100 just because its a popular "boy racer" car

Yes there will be a difference between 8v/16v, as theres about 3/4 insurance group difference in the original donor car.

insurance group will be the main thing here, if its an sri it will be higher, but I had a qoute for a 2.0 8v gls cav and it was about £100 cheaper than the 8v sri.

HIC Classic car policy :)

It will be slightly cheaper, but you're at that awkward age where insurance is never cheap :(

My XE caged ever declared is £750 FC. My 130 8v was £650 FC (but that doesn't have half the goodies). Even declared the horseys on the XE and they didn't mind.
When i was 19 i had a gte, that cost me £780 FC with 1 years ncb.

A good area code is also key! I get royally screwed over on that all the time!

Well wasn't thinking of trying my luck with a 2 litre quite yet, but an 8 valve does seem a viable option for me. Cheaper insurance (when i get round to it) and they handle that little bit better, which is important when you live close to the Yorkshire Dales :P

Insurance companies don't always go by donor car groupings any more. Flux and HIC have always asked me for the power increase and base the premium hike on that; when they ask for the donor car information I've either said "I don't know" or just said "Cavalier" or "Astra" - bear in mind the IG difference between a cav GLS and a GSi is a lot, but the engine is the same and thats the thing you have.
