biggest concern but isn't to serious is this slight crack where what could be a rear panel has been replaced when he has restored it

Spent the other night giving it a wash, clayed it all paint was minging, looks loads better. Tried to get it started but no luck, mate of mine came round tonight who knows carbs inside out and has a balancing tool, Took him 2mins!! Git, the other night I also got impatient doing stuff and wanted to see progress so stuck the bonnet decal on, trust me to get it wrong!! lucky i have a spare

Bit work from tonight, carbs are spot on going to a local place tomorrow who restore MGs to get a throttle return spring for 99p that should cure the idle fully, also fitted the boot decal, dead easy job tbh easier than I thought, Fitted a new Vacuum advance, makes a nice improvement to the detail of the engine bay along with the early spec expansion tank

Genuine shell mate, SMT was the supplying dealer so thought it right to keep the plates

Carbs are now all set up, along with ignition timing should run spot on, starts first turn of the key aswell, engine will be finished once I can sort the alternator sitting off centre,

Managed to sell the Magnex exhaust last night, new exhaust has been ordered today and should be here tomorrow, then just a case of waiting for my centre section to arrive!! Game on!!

Also got the problem iron'd out with the alternator bracket, maged a temporary fix on it for now (cheers Dave) got it all sorted and it runs spot on, no squealing as before. I found that not only were the bearings in the alternator gone, the fan belt as catching on the alternator mount along with the blades on the fan of the alternator. The guy had also had the timing belt to tight causing a squeall from that, all sorted now and it runs as sweet as!!

Bit more work tonight, me and Glen tried to fit my alloys off the spider but they dont fit due to the et42 offset! decided on the cam cover aswell, finaly got rid of the lovely 3 colours, painted the passenger sill aswell in satin black.

Spent last night trying to do one of the decals on the front bumper, they cam up ok but not perfect, i'll leave perfection to dec and Rich!

Big thanks to my mate Steve aswell for the rear springs, now sits spot on

Anyone any ideas on how I can clean the exhaust manifold up? would like a heat sheild idealy!

Take the fannymould off, give it a damn good clean up with a wire brush, and spray it with some matt black HT paint. They come up spot on, i did the one on the 1.2 recently. You dont want bling under a sport bay!!!!!!

Pulled all the dash out and fitted a replacement dash, also fitted the stereo blank I had in my box of tricks so need to find another one for the spider

fitted a new speedo head I had as I can't be sure the 18k mile clocks are exact thought a new clock shows its mileage from rebuild,

Biggest bit of an update is under the bonnet, I have a new genuine vxl fuel pump on its way from ebay so that'll brighten the last bit needing doing under the bonnet, Got a new 1.3 manifold from work, the old manifold was a 1.4 item to i've ended up changing the full system to fit it

Not doing to bad for PV, still need to get the doors back from paint and fit them, finish the decals, fit new 16v brakes, find and fit a set of wheels, biggest job of the lot is going to be the headlining, and lastly run it in!

Headling is going to be a pain!

Just uploaded tonights pics, Nothing major due to not getting in from work till late, spoke to my painter contact who tells me the doors are rubbed down, hopefully painted tomorrow morning and collect them tuesday??
Fited steering wheel, swapped it for the 3 spoke that was on so it cost me the price of postage, i'd like to say it looks better but it doesn't, but it is more in keeping with the car

Bit more of an update, got new fuel pump fitted, got head lining done to a resonable standard, although it needs a bloody good clean, But cleaning it at this stage is the last thing i'm worried about! Got the doors back from paint, painted good old polar white but due to the rest of the car being painted a while back there is a slight shade difference, hoping a good buff with G3 and putting the decals will all help it merge in. If weather improves it may have the passenger side fully stickered by tonight but at the moment its to wet!

Got 2 rear wheels fitted tonight, think my neigbours think I'm mad, went out at 9.40pm to clean the wheels before I fit them, PV isn't going to happen due to the car not having time to be run in and tested before such a long run

yeah defo not worth risking taking it for a long run before running it in. want a few good WOT runs then an oil change then 500miles at varying revs (town driving) then another oil change and yoru away lol.

gotto be run in properly else it'll end up costing you more in the long run.

Car is now sat on 4 MK2 Astra GTE rims for now to get it MOTd but I have just agreed a deal on these little babies!

Not sure if i've mentioned either than when I took the front wheels of I had a plecent suprise that all the front end has bee polly ushed and also comes fitted with new braided brake pipes which mated nicely to the 16v spec calipers i've fited

I always thought that! The sport side decals look like a photoshop gradient, it's quite surreal to look at stood next to it I imagine.

Big update tonight, well kind of, got a bit more decal work done, drivers wing and door are on, just the drivers 1/4 to do once the paint is sorted, I'm not 100% happy on the drivers door alignment,

If you see the gaps around the handle it is perfect more or less, but the lock isn't right,

It looks like I have a wrong decal, the doors are definitly later spec ones as I fitted new handles which the part numbers corespond to be later spec.

So looking at the lock alignment the decal is to far forward, but if I was to pull it back it would leave the gap on the front door edge to big, as per below, this is how it sits at the moment, which in my opinion is about 3mm+ to short moving it (basicly a new decal) would make this gap bigger.

My thoughts are that the decal suplied is wrong, not sure how as it was labeled as a late spec door?? Wrong batch cut?? I've emailed the supplier back and forward so far he has yet to admit any fault on his part, will give him the benefit of the doubt and await his next responce

It the process of getting it ready for the MOT etc I had the drivers seat out and hadn't tightend up the bolts so when the seat was wobbled it apeared loose, just tighten the 2 bolts I though?? Nope! all tight and it still had play, major MOT fail! a bit investigation work revealed this

The seat base had snapped, in all my years playing with Novas ( about 11years ish) I have never seen this before? Anyone else? Fitted a base from another seat I had sat in the garage so thats all fixed. The old one has also been fixed and is probably as strong as ever thanks the Gareth's (donkeydoodles) welding skills

Collected them on way home from PV, all nicely powder coated in an off white.

Ordered new tyres Monday night from my mate who is manager at a local well known tyre fitting company for the bargain price of £200!! 4 Michelins, the cheepest net price I could find was £66!

Not sure if you can make out in this pic, but I fitted the tyres myself and made sure all the tyres are fitted exactly the same (Dec eat your heart out!) avery tyre has Michelin in line with the Valve! Sad I know!

Went to fit them Tuesday afternoon but the wheel bolts didn't have enough length, managed to get some longer bolts from a local Alloy wheel dealer, perfect fit! So she now currently sits like this

Update!! We have an MOT!! The car can finaly be driven on the public highway legaly! However I wasn't convinced at the life expectancy of the gearbox due to it wining and sounding like it had been ran with no oila nd the bearings had been ruined. So I pulled it out tonight with the intention of fitting a replacement tomorrow, not worth taking the risk of driving it to Billing considering what work is involved to replace it.

Heres some pics of it again with the wheels fitted on a level surface, front suspension is a bit high in these pics as this is the suspension from the spider. I had some camber issues on it (as mentioned by Craig Green i belive?) that I thought was caused by the suspension being jacked up. I replaced every thing on that side and it has cured it. I suspect a bent shock or hub so refitting the old shocks will tell. If it is the shocks then I'll need replacements as the Bilsteins won't be staying on.

Tomorrow I should have the box back in and running nice and quiet, paint work one rear 1/4 done and last decal applied.

I'm also planning on ringing the guy who supplied the stickers tomorrow. I measured them up and the drivers door decal is 1/8th of an inch to short can anyone else who bough some via rich confirm this?

No major update tonight, got a 1.3 badge dropped of by Cheshiresport earlier, The rear end now looks complete, also had the washer bottle off and in the dishwasher, didn't come up 100% so soaked it for half the day in a bucket of domestos which did the trick.

Biggest thing acheived today is that Dave at DMB has agreed to send me another decal for the door. That should be with me over the next few days so I will see how that goes. He hasn't accepted that the decal is at fault but has said he doesn't know what has happend to the decal I have.

Anyone that got a set of decals for the later doors from DMB i'd recomend checking them asap against your doors to avoid disapointment when it comes to fitting them, wouldn't want anyone missing Billing if its not perfect!

It will be up for sale after Billing mate, shame to sell it but I have enough cars in the fleet without another one (2x Spiders, Nova XE, Nova 1.2 sx and a new Astra SRI XP). I mainly bought it to see it finiahed as I was sick of seeing it sat neglected and so close to being done, now my own spider is sat neglected and needs to be finished over the winter. When I got it I had thought about just sticking a few little bits on to finish it and then sell it on, but my heart has taken over and its got more and more intence. I think I have a buyer lined up for it but i'm open to offers on it so we'll see what happens. Wish I could afford the money and space to keep it but I think I need to concentrate on the Spiders. At least I'll be able to say I made my mark on the Sport world lol

The Decals are actualy fridge Magnets however expect to see it in pride of place on the boot at Billing lol :thumb:
