Well this was my prid eand joy up until 9am this morning. I was sitting at traffic lights on a duel carriageway when a woman who had only been driving for 3 weeks hit my rear end at 50mph. I have a sore neck to say the least! what's going to be worse than losing my pride and joy was a set of alloys are due to arrive for it today! Her excuse My clutch didnt work!:tard: WTF?

in its original state:

FFS! Dozy mare.

Get the compo in for the back & neck damage dude. Bag yourself another.

Just make sure the good/rare bits dont get scrapped. A good body man could repair that. Is the roof bent?

Andy
19-05-08, 01:55 PM
Devastated.Be sure to claim on compensation though

dave_bates
19-05-08, 01:59 PM
the roofs fine, but the drivers door dosnt shut anymore so the whole thing must be bent.

gutted!

Steve
19-05-08, 02:01 PM
Ouch! totally gutted for you mate, looked like a real minter. Definetly get compensation off her.

NovaLad
19-05-08, 02:02 PM
OMG you must be gutted.

How does the clutch effect her breaking?? WTF!

Stuart
19-05-08, 02:05 PM
Only claim if you are GENUINELY hurt.... as I dont fancy giving you any of my hard earnt money, id rather not have to spend it on premium increases :(

craig green
19-05-08, 02:07 PM
Fair comment Stu. Judging by the car though, I'd say his neck is gonna feel worse.

Novas are tough old sheds arent they?

NovaLad
19-05-08, 02:13 PM
Should make a lil bit of money selling what can be saved.

Unless you are going to have another MK1 and use bits off this 1 for spares?

tom_beverley
19-05-08, 02:16 PM
Ouch :(

At least you're ok matey, but I must say I feel gutted for you too.

dave.gsi
19-05-08, 02:34 PM
unlucky,... but as said if your not actually badly hurt, do us all a favour and don't claim 'whiplash'. i fecking hate people who do that!

i'd definately look into keeping the car though, buy it back from the insurance company. selling all the parts from it would make you a bit of cash,....unbolt everything that isn't damaged and then get the grinder out for the front half, i'm sure someone on here would buy most of the engine bay if it was mint (inner wings/strut tops/battery tray/front panel etc)

dave_bates
19-05-08, 03:06 PM
no dont think i'll be claiming for whiplash, i bet nine out of ten people would though!! especially as the hospital said i have it! dosnt hurt too much though.

the womans husband dosnt want me to go through the insurance, he's offered me £400 , plus i'll be able to keep the car as ive managed to get it home, tempting but dont know what to do:confused:, havent reported yet as no-one was hurt,

It was a new beetle that hit me, it's only got a small hole in the bumper and scratches. i bet its a bit of a mess behind the bumper though.

NovaLad
19-05-08, 03:07 PM
Is 400 worth it? if not then ask for more.

Personally i would fix the nova up.

paul james
19-05-08, 03:09 PM
I'd ask for more than £400, thats too cheap for a mint nova and keeping down the insurance for him on useless driver who only just passed.

dave_bates
19-05-08, 03:12 PM
it is cheap but I bet it's more than the insurance will give me, they dont care that its only done 25k, and isn't rusty,

paul james
19-05-08, 03:16 PM
Perhaps it is more than insurance will give, but that doesn't mean he should get away with giving you peanuts for what basically is a written off car. Regardless of wether you fix it or not, you can't drive it at is it, and £400 isn't going to get you another mint nova tommorow. You can bet the insurance for his wife would jump more than £400 if you claim, given she has only just passed. You've got whiplash, and a trashed car that was mint, neither of which was your fault, £400 is an insult.

NovaLad
19-05-08, 03:16 PM
I wouldn't take less than 550.

It's not the fixing of it that's going to be expensive it's the spray job after probs.

Welsh Dan
19-05-08, 03:20 PM
Find another minter, and get him to buy you that. Thats fair.

L33 LEG
19-05-08, 03:25 PM
thats such a shame :( what makes matters worse is that insurance companies would offer peanuts for the car but to you and the rest of us, itl be worth much more

craig green
19-05-08, 03:25 PM
it is cheap but I bet it's more than the insurance will give me, they dont care that its only done 25k, and isn't rusty,

But you do. Insist on 'like for like' replacement.

Jeff16v
19-05-08, 03:28 PM
Personally mate, i wouldn't settle with them direct. You could easily have health problems in the near future related to the accident and you are only doing them a favour by settling.

If you can prove to the insurance company how much a car like this goes for you can get more with some haggling.

Whn mine was written off i argued with the insurance and even though it wasn't specially insured they check the web and clubs and eventually settled on £2k. They offered me £600 at the start.

People are spending 1k on mint standard shells to make concours ones.

Whatever happens, keep the shell. everything is repairable, its just the money that stops it. You can sell\keep bits for the next one.

Whiplash doesn't always hurt straight away.

thedjse
19-05-08, 03:45 PM
Awww no mate sooo sorry to see that buddy!!! that looked a minter!!

Stuart
19-05-08, 03:46 PM
If it helps I can send you a copy if a recipt for my H plate MK2 with 46K on the clock... Its more than your £400 starting offer from them.. This will help your case.

plus look at Dan and GT's recent purchases and how much they went for etc. all std cars in std sales.

Lauren
19-05-08, 04:38 PM
Oh that's bad luck. Looks like it was well taken care of too.

General Baxter
19-05-08, 04:50 PM
call for the a team, me and burgo :D lol

is the chassis bent or the boot panel just 'popped' off it?

might be time to cut the rear end out and make it rwd :)

dave.gsi
19-05-08, 04:58 PM
yeah i'd definately tell him where he can shove his £400! thats probably just the excess on his insurance policy that he'd have to pay if you claimed.

i'd start by refusing his offer face to face, and telling him if he doesn't play fair then neither will you. afterall, the hospital say you have whiplash. then pull out a few adverts/printouts from what mint novas are actually worth and tell him if he doesn't cough up £700+ then it'll be going through the insurance, plus a claim for whiplash. that should be enough for him to up his offer :thumb:

Adam
19-05-08, 05:01 PM
Shame that is, proper minter.

I wouldn't go about even attempting to repair that, for the wheel to be touching the inner arch i bet the rear chassis legs are bent/twisted.
Boot floor fooked/rear panel fooked/rear quarters(internal and external)

Just not worth repairing.

No way id settle for £400, you wont pick up another in that condition for £400(unless your extremely lucky)

Sounds like the other party wants to avoid insurance involvement due to the drivers situation, probably on parents insurance etc.

draper
19-05-08, 05:05 PM
and make sure you tell your insurance company the guys trying to settle out of court so to speak

good on you for not claiming whiplash matey and hopefully it all gets sorted

ck
19-05-08, 05:32 PM
show him this one mate lol http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1986-VAUXHALL-NOVA-MERIT-1-2cc-CLASSIC-CAR-HATCHBACK_W0QQitemZ260237415312QQcmdZViewItem?hash =item260237415312&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C65%3A7&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

its the closest thing ive seen to yours age and mileage and condition... only other mint early low mileage one i seen was on autotrader in white for £775

Adam
19-05-08, 05:36 PM
OMG, i want that/\ lol

Seems to be minters popping up everywhere atm

ck
19-05-08, 05:46 PM
yeah looks a stunner that one, and the white one on autotrader looked just like it just white lol:D

Dave.
19-05-08, 06:08 PM
id still keep it but use it for autotesting or rallying, tie a rope to either side of the boot and to a concrete post or lamppost, put it in first and get a fair bit of speed up, hopefully it should jolt the back end enough to get it kinda straight, then ratehr than scrap it just use it for autotesting etc.. :thumb: seems too much of a waste

General Baxter
19-05-08, 06:17 PM
ill give you £50 for it lol,

need to prove to adam i can fix it for around £200 :thumb: lol

mikey14sr
19-05-08, 06:48 PM
Looks like you'll have to let the air out of the spare to get it out of there now. it's a real shame, but at least it was strong enough to keep you alive, I bet most saxo's hit like that would need the cutting gear to get people out.

Rich
19-05-08, 07:19 PM
Jesus christ im gutted for you! £400 is a joke!

If i was you just go through insurance. If the hospital told you have wiplash get it treated and claim off them. I had wiplash after being rear ended in a race, i never got it seen to and its still playing up that was a couple of years ago now. Insurance is never getting cheaper and you are going to be paying alot of it in the future so you might as well get some money out of it! Just think, it will buy you another nova and get it to the decent spec you want ;)

dave_bates
19-05-08, 08:31 PM

General Baxter

Claim for wiplash you fool. why turn down money, spesh as the hospital has told you you have it.

go through yours/there insurance and hold out to get as much money as you can.

having a mint nova like that then it written of and getting £400 is a joke, theres a grand atleast with your name on it:thumb:

i feel for you mate, i think i would have got out and ripped her door off and battered her with it:cry: ,as for £400 not even close, as said before thats just her excess, the trouble is people just don't know how rare they are - in that condition

Personally mate, i wouldn't settle with them direct. You could easily have health problems in the near future related to the accident and you are only doing them a favour by settling.

Very true, parents business partner was in a very bad crash in the Mont Blanc tunnel back in the mid 90's, 3 years later it was discovered he'd broken his neck in the crash. He now has to go to a chiropractor at least once a month and pay for it out of his own pocket!

Thats a very extreme case, but worth keeping in mind.

Gutted to hear about the crash, I'd love a standard minter like that.

krobinson
19-05-08, 10:54 PM
I work in car insurance and if I was you i'd be claiming for everything.

Get some adverts for how much these nova's go for (as said above)

Also, wait a few weeks to see how your feeling before settleing anything, you could be really hurt. Infact I cant understand how anyone couldnt be hurt after such an impact. You should see around 3k from a personal injury claim which will be needed towards time off work etc.

This would be a genine claim so don't be worrying about that side of things.

go via the insurance, your whip lash will probably get worse so don't dismiss it now, As for the car you should get £400 easy

Dod

It was genuinely not your fault and blatently the other drivers, and she has hit you with a lot of force. I agree with waiting a while before you make your decisions. Take a few days off work and mess about on ebay, printing off Minty Novas and keeping them on file. Have you an origional bill of sale for the Car? Bills and recepts for everything you've spent on the car?

I appreciate you not claiming, to be honest i dont think I would as long as all my costs were covered, as we say over here, theres no luck in that sort of money. But you are owed a Nova and a clean one at that.

Best of luck with it mate.

AlexW
20-05-08, 11:19 AM
That sucks, remember seeing this nova before and thought Wow! Minty!

If i was you, having wiplash, a write off Mint mk1, and the opturnity to get a couple of grand, take it!

I know everyone says about, "Ohhh my insurance is going to go up now, dont claim" Its youself that pays, youve been paying your insurance and Insurance will Always go up, cars get older, cars get worth more.

Take it through the insurance, when ive been involved in a crash before and didnt go through the insurance i regreted it, and still do.

Steve

Im Very temped to buy it myself, but means i would have to scrape the money togeher, i dont think its far from me

Paul
20-05-08, 01:12 PM
So how do you feel today? Whiplash should be starting to kick in properly now, 24 hours after the accident.

dave_bates
20-05-08, 09:07 PM
definately going through the insurance, ive been printing off examples of values of similar cars ready to reject there first offer :thumb: hopefully it works out doing it that way, pretty confident i'll get at least the 400. The neck is still sore but i'll leave the claim for now, the accident has been reported and documented by the hospital so if it looks like i have got some long term damage i can still claim.

that nova does look good on ebay, the wife would prefer this moved from the side of the house first though. i'll have a word with her now;)

i'll keep you all posted, thankyou all for the advice and kind words, so glad i joined the club.

i still think of it as a mint nova, gonna hurt seeing it towed away, hopefull i'll be able to salvage some bits... front wings, doors, lights etc, there all rust free so great spares.

the most amazing thing.....the rear lights are uncracked and every bulb still works!! Shows there not built quite as sh*tly as everybody says.

General Baxter
20-05-08, 09:12 PM
can i raid it for parts before it goes lol
