i got the calipers and disks off a GTE because basically they were free and at the time looked much bigger than the ones on my 1.2. however do they fit straight on or am i gonna have to start changing things around like the servo's and cylinder things that people talk about. Cheers very much for any inspirational words cos im very confused, jon

should go straight on m8 but you might need to bend/remove the metal guard from behind the disk if it catches, dont know for sure because i have never fitted gte discs but i dont think the servo will need changing.

someone will correct me if i am wrong :)

sorry not a lot of point in this post but, my mate who changed his 1.2 brakes for 16v ones needed to fit the GSi servo as well.
Now i dont know if it was needed or he done it to save stress at a later date :?:

u dont haveto change the sevo for any conversion, but it helps!!

they fit stright on, dont even need to bend the guards!

fitted them to my sr when i had it.

make sure the pistons r free to move and the rails havent seized up!

so wot diff will it make if i dont change the servo? will they just not work as well or do i have to push the pedal a bit harder? and how hard is it to change the servo? cheers for the help every1, jon

u wont need to push the pedal harder, its just that u haveto push them harder than if u had the bigger sevo in, shud still work better than your original brakes.

if u want a better upgrade i have a set of GSi ATE callipers/discs/pads all in good nick.

and maybe you could buy a gsi brake servo iff colin smith he has some for ?20.

the sevo is easy, ondo the 2 13mm nuts that hold the cylinder to it, then undo the 2 13mm nust that hold it down, then take out the pin from the passengers footwell that holds it in place.

put some silicon seal on the joint between the servo/cylinder when u refit.

be careful if you have after market wheels, ive just fitted gte brakes to my mates car which has 15 inch Dare v1's, the caliper was way tooclose to the inside of the whhel spokes and we had to fit thin spacers.

so is this a tough job to do cos im not much of a mechanic. and ive only got a 1.2 so these brakes should do for the minute. but how much u sellin urs for then? so would you recommend getting the bigger servo then? i take bk the earlier comment, i may as well make it stop rapidly even if it dont go all that fast!

fitting the 16v jobbies is exactly the same as fitting the GTE ones or the original (mk2 anyway) calipers

remove old shite

remove dust sheild

attach new disk

bolt on new calipers and attach brake line

bleed

drive

ive got the 16v's on a standard servo from a 1.2i and they are fine,
i THINK i have a bigger servo in the shed and im gonna fit that when i do my engine swap

i also decided stopping quickly is a good idea cos i wrote off my first car at 20mph and by pure luck a guy at the local motor factors had just finished breaking a 16v Astra and sold me the calipers for ?20 :)
set of disks was about ?20 and pads also about ?20

the calipers normally run anywhere from ?50-70 and are about ?100 EACH new
