the sri wheels have 195 60s on and the gsi wheels have some big donuts on them at the mo havent checked the size but theyre all bummed so im fitting 195,45,15s proxes is this a good size to use on a nova?

Well thats your problem them, tyres are to big !
45's will be fine, and should fit straight on without catching anything.

to be honest i think they still shouldnt rub unless its lowered quite abit. the tyres arent that wide so should no way touch the rear strut/shock. i know there a big profile but it should wtill be ok tbh.

just been up my garage and had a look , the gsi rims have only got 195,50s on them but hit the inner wing and shock, my cars a base model 1 litre carb could it be the drums might be narrower than the bigger engined models?
Also are all the gsi rims the same size 15"x 6.5j

GSi cav (& most 15" Vaux rims are 6" width) I've had my set on 3 Novas, none rubbed. That was on 50 profile Yokohama treads.

hmmm im well stuck on this one like i say could the drums on a 1 litre be narrower hence the whell sits in too far.

What make tyres? Some tyres can have more "bulgy" sidewalls.

Although I've got some very fat 195/60/15 down 40mm and plenty of room on the inside.

tried em on before i lowered it theyve got some nasty cheap things on them but im getting proxes, the naff tyres on em have very flat sides no bulges

The tyres are too big, thats the problem :)

there 195s even if i use 45s theyll be the same width

Its that ratio thats causing the problem.
My rear is lowered 90mm, with 195/45 tyres and doesn't rub at all.

cool im not fitting the wheels till i get the 45s anyway so itll be a while, ill ave another butchers in there when i take it back to my garage from my mates workshop to fit the lump in then i can sort whtas what with the tyre clearences

To be honest on a nova it's a toss of a coin whether 195/50's will rub, my saloon had cav sri slabs and no rubbing at all with -40mm. My SR had astra gsi rims with 195/50's with -40mm and I had to hammer the inner arch in a little at one side, and trim the outer arches right down, though those tyres were more like 205's in actual width.
