Well dan drove down my mates garage earlier on today in the rain. his car was full of stuff, should have taken a picture. x16xe in the boot, hoist in the back as well as a fuel tank and the engine bits haha.

Anyway, i cycled down as my cars are off the road at the moment:( as dan stripped all the crap out of the engine bay and disconnect the 1.2 i was helping my friend change the clutch on his civic sr v-tec...

It pi*sed down with rain for quite a bit of the time, i was under a big sheet so we were fine doing the clutch, poor dan out in the rain:roll:.

1.2 is out, and the x16xe and f15 is now in, just gotto pop one shaft back 1st thing tomorrow as we couldnt be bothered tonight .

heres a couple pics i took while we were there.

Oh yeah the clearance looked absolutly perfect for the multi V belt (wide/flat belt) it even looks like this is another one ive dont which wont even need the chassis leg touching to clear the alternator pulley... its wierd how some are too close like when doing a c20xe conversion.?

I thought i took some more photos , pretty sure dan has some he will upload

big choice tomorrow, do i help with the loon, or do i finish off a friends XE corsa conversion or finish of another friends astra GSi C20LET conversion ? lol

the engine bay is a bit manky as you can see, dan promises if its good weather he will give it a good clean and treat the small bits of surface rust and then at least prime some of the bay lol. just to make it look a little better. not important for the moment its to get it sorted and on the road, as the engine will come back out in the nr future anyway when the gte is on the road.
if its better than what it is now then thats good i think, perfection does not count here. more of a thrash around/mess around sleeper.

Saloon vs Corsa vs Astra?

I don't see the dilemma in that one, the saloon is of course the obvious choice!

Good work.
Id be wary running that wide belt though, yeah they fit in fine, but under hard cornering..... Id rather have piece of mind and fit a slim v-belt tbh(hence why i did that on mine)

should be all good adam, last one i done looked a little closer and never had a single problem with the wide belt, never touched on hard cornering. i remember having an argument on mig about it lol, people saying it physicaly cant be done with a wide belt lol. knowing myself that i have allready done it lol..

hopefully our clearance is fine:D

yeah dan is supposed to be there now cleaning the bay lol..

well not much of a update really but here is what ive done today, bit poor really should leave it till ive got more. well had to walk into town first to buy some primer ( five mile walk ) then walk to the garage to start to sand and prep the engine bay. Got there and started to hammer it down with rain again :(. so another day working in the rain. So got the sand paper and started to sand most of the bay ready. just got a bit more to do on the passenger turret , bulkhead and driver side inner wing. well what you think? looks abit better already imo. going back down tomorrow to hopefully put some primer on if its not raining

Well got abit more done today seeing as the weather was nice . As soon as i got down there the first thing i did was put the other shaft back in as i could not be botherd yesterday in the wet. Then covered the engine up and sanded the engine bay a lttile bit more to get as smooth finsh as i could with 120 grit.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff314/b17ova/the%20saloon/newnova089.jpg

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff314/b17ova/the%20saloon/newnova091.jpg

Then while i waited for the primer to go dry i set about cleaning the fuel tank.

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff314/b17ova/the%20saloon/newnova095.jpg

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff314/b17ova/the%20saloon/newnova096.jpg

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff314/b17ova/the%20saloon/newnova097.jpg

Then had a little rest in the sun while both dried as dont know when ill next see sun lol

then after 30 mins or so off came the cover on the engine and untill tomorrow this is it. And i will be doing the bulkhead more when i get it back to my place to use a wire wheel on a drill

Well yesterday got up early as i have everything

two oil filters as going to do another oil change in a week
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff314/b17ova/the%20saloon/newnova016.jpg

gm fuel filter
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff314/b17ova/the%20saloon/newnova017.jpg

fuel hoes 6 meters
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff314/b17ova/the%20saloon/newnova018.jpg

and my new bulbs to get rid of the candle in the jar light :wtf:
http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff314/b17ova/the%20saloon/newnova019.jpg

so got down there and started with the water hoses and taken the inlet off, this will leave me abit more room to play with and also add some gasket sealent. and put the manifold on

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff314/b17ova/the%20saloon/newnova019-1.jpg

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff314/b17ova/the%20saloon/newnova020.jpg

and here is ck heating the xe manifold up to hopefully get the bolts out without snapping for the downpipe

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff314/b17ova/the%20saloon/newnova017-1.jpg

and we were very lucky only to snap two but managed to get one of them out with a vise as there was enough of the bolt showing. so alot of gt35 and time later it came out

and then mounted it to a 1.4sr downpipe

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff314/b17ova/the%20saloon/newnova018-1.jpg

So carried on and we have all the fuel lines on with the new tank and they were all connected, then started all the wiring and and after some messing around with a very tangled loom we had it all ready and wired the engine up. the added the inlet back on and put fuel in and started it, well it only was cranking over so seeing as it was 10:30 at night we left it as that. so next time i get down there ill take more pics of the engine , underneith and the manifold ( which is hitting the gearbox mount and cant put the system on ) so untill next time thats all for now

Adam

Your better off leaving the 16v downpipe on.
Nova twin downpipes make the fitment worse than the originalk 16v downpipe. They hit the car(as youve found out)

Could you not get a new gasket for the upper to lower inlet?

ck
26-05-08, 04:03 PM
the x16xe 16v downpipe is more out than the sr one. last time i done a small block xe conversion we used a gte downpipe and was perfect, before that was a c16xe downpipe.

bit of chopping and welding and it will be fine.

gasket fcuk that lol, the inlet aint on there for long tbh. and when i had my corsa on th einlet side of things i never used a gasket in the 20+ times i had the inlet on and off and it was pefectly fine..

and the other reason is were prob gonna put my old inlet manifold on or the TB's..

heres a pic of my old engine and the inlet we might put on the saloon

Adam
26-05-08, 04:09 PM
The x16 downpipe is a mile off yeah, but the c16 one bolts right up to a nova gsi/gte system.

Fair enough about the gasket, just seems a bit daft for the sake of £3 Lol

ck
26-05-08, 04:43 PM
well like i said i never bothered with gaskets the amount of times i had my inlet off ect ect. and bigs excuse is probably cuz its about a 5mile walk to the local motor factors and the car is about half way in between so partialy cuz of that lol

lol You know me to well

Yea that had alot to do with it. 5 mile there then 5 back hmm think ill just use gasket sealent :D

I couldnt actually get hold of upper inlet gaskets cheap enough to warrant buying any. So I made mine from gasket paper.

Explains all the Hylomar I keep having to scrape off Chris!

Well went down today to try and sort out why it wasnt running, and after ck done a test to see the codes we found out that it was just one wire that needed sorting. So once we done that it started first time woohoo :D. But there still is a problem the engine is running very lumpy and dont put down power well at all. So were going to have alook tomorrow as there is two wires that dont connect to anything. So were thinking the guy i got the engine from maybe cut off something. And should of took a vid while it was running it was so loud it was stupid. a mate heard us rev it from two miles away lol. I also got about cutting the bit of the linkage so i can use 5th gear

Before

After

And a pic with all the wiring done ect. still got to tidy it up abit but looks ok for the time being
