My first car was a Mk2 SR, but I’ve always liked the idea of a 2ltr Nova. I’ve got a GTE at the moment but didn’t want to convert that because I want to keep it original. I bought another Mk2 SR complete with C20XE, F20 box, 2ltr brakes and motorsport driveshafts and hubs, I then striped all the bits off it and scraped the shell because it was rotten. After viewing three other Novas I found a mint Mk1 Star.

Here is the car as it was when I first bought it

Everything removed and cleaned ready to be sent to Chris Astley for seam welding and strenghtening kit.

WOW! She really is a star! God speed with the build mate.

It'd be a shame to bolt any dirt or oil to that one! :thumb:

Care to start with a breif spec or plans for the final outcome? Body changes & wheels etc.

Thanks everyone for the positive comments so far. Brief plans for the car and some of the parts I already have are:

GTE front and rear seats. I haven’t decided if to fit rear seats or not yet.
GTE front bumper. I’ve haven’t found a GTE grill or rear bumper to go with it yet, but once I have, these will be sprayed rover hurricane grey.
Clear front indicators and clear oval side repeaters
Red euro rear lights
GSI rear spoiler
OMP group a/n exhaust
GM euro sport oz rally wheels. These may be changed for some alesios or cesaros but again I haven’t decided yet.
Bonnet liftersBit more of an update. I’ve had the car back from Chris Astley, big thanks to him for such an excellent and fast job. Engine bay seam welding all done and strengthening kit fitting. Since having the car back I’ve seam sealed parts of the engine bay, inner wings and spray the inner wings/all welding strengthening work. Engine bay has also been primed and sprayed and certain areas sprayed with waxoyl. I’ve have also trail fitted the engine. I've also fitted the drivers side GTE seat, rear boot light and taken the clocks out. I have up to date pictures and will get them posted asap.

If you're planning on fitting alloys then I'd go for the GTE bumpers, and GSI spoiler, but if you're planning on fitting some 15" or 16" steelies with wheeltrims then I'd keep it as a sleeper :thumb:.

I never seen the engine running before I bought it and since I've put it in the car I've had problems getting it to tick over and run right. After trying various things I thought the problem might be a bent value. I've taken the head of and all but one of the exhaust inlet vales are bent

The rocker is silver and I also have a new plug cover, Now all need is a bumper like the one that was on the car when I bought it, wish I didn't sell mine now.

The head is now sprayed ready to fit. And my EPS arrived in the post on friday. Looks like there is a piece missing on one of the brackets that bolts to the car. What do you think?

http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p136/courtnova16v/EPAS.jpg

Also when I got home today I found out that without mentioning names someone had reversed into the front of the car bending the wing just below the passenger headlight and also the front panel. Gutted! When I can get the battery out of my camera to charge it I will post pictures of the head and damage to the car.

Damage to the front panel and wing

http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p136/courtnova16v/DSC01449Re-sized.jpg

Managed to add some more dents to my car, took the bonnet of and put it against wall and the wind blew it over . Fitted the head and took the car for drive. Couldn't really test what it goes like because it was raining and my wipers arn't connected, so couldn't see out the windscreen all that well. Ow also had no nut on the steering wheel. At least it got back up the hill this time, which It woundn't do before. Also the radiator has been on and off the car so much I managed to brake one of the mounting points, fixed it at first but its started to leak after it had been taken on and off the car again.

Damage to radiator

Quick update - Even though I gave my battery a full charge it keeps going flat. So I tested the alternator and it appears to be faulty. So I spent all of last evening trying to change the alternator. Once I got the old one off I noticed a small black wire on the alt had been cut of. I then fitted the alt of the original 1.2 engine only to find that even with the alt fully forward it is a struggle to get the belt on and also the two pulleys don't line up, I have also tried two different brackets. So tonights plan is to get the 1.2 alt back off, test the battery, if the batterys not at fault then try and repair the wire on the alt and see if that solves the problem. Will update later tonight.

Steve
17-12-08, 04:16 PM

Steve - I sent them a signed receipt and covering letter along with the new cc and engine number

Krobinson - I like to think so :)

Following on from my update today I tested the battery and its fine. The black wire that had been cut off the alt was the supresor wire so thas not the problem. So looks like I need to get a new alternator.

Adam - Like I said I've tried a 1.2 alt and a c20xe alt, the problem that I've found is that they both fit on but the belts either have no adjustment or don't even fit on, this is not to much of an issue as I can get a longer belt the main problem is the pulleys not lining up. The difference between the two alts I've tried and my original are the brackets are in a different place, as can be seen in the picture a posted up

Not having much luck with this the car. After three to four weeks waiting for my original alt to be repaired I've now been told that it can't be repaired. Even though I was told I would have it back tuesday repaired. So I modified the bottom bracket on a alt I bought in the mean time so that the pulleys would line up and also bought a longer belt. So got that fitted, now the car won't start, no spark, also the battery light no longer comes on the dash. If I take the lead of the alt and earth it the light comes on the dash. Going to try another ignition coil and see if that helps.

Just read through your thread. Lovely shell. I've noticed your having alternator issues.I am too with my project. Theres lots of pics in my thread showing the alternator brackets (new type and old). The late multi v type alternator use a different bracket to the single v but when fitted to the block both line up with the crank pulley. I've converted mine to a 4 v belt and alternator similar to SBD's setup

Your water pipes returning to the header tank. Isn't there a feed from the inlet manifild back to the header tank? I've noticed you havent got 2 returns. Have you fitted a T piece on the return?

Solved my alt issue by modding the alt and bracket and also using a longer belt. Regarding the water pipes there is a feed from the inlet manifold back to the header tank but i'm not using it as I've been told its not needed. Now i'm not 100% sure myself so would welcome any thoughts or advice on this.

Reason I asked about water return pipes is because I want a Bailey header tank but they only list one with one return pipe fitting. Ive seen some though with two returns forsale second hand. Some people use a T piece fitted to connect one from the rad to the one from the inlet. I'd imagine if it's connected it will help the water flow and bleed air out of the system when filling

Glad you've got you alternator issue sorted:thumb:

That’s exactly what happened. Lucky it’s not as bad as it sounds. Just need a new wing really. Got a call from the third parts insurance company today and they are going to repair my car. Went to get a quote for repair today as advised by the insurance company and I am waiting to here back from the bodyshop.

This is what I was worried about. The bloke at the bodyshop said because a 3rd party insurance is ment to be paying they would just offer me a cash settlement instead of repair. Appreciate peoples opinions on this because I really don’t know.

The cash settlement will be fook all.
So you could take that and repair it yourself.

But the insurance might cat c it, meaning i think it needs a VIC check...

I wouldn't of involved the insurance personally.

As explained on the previous page my bad luck with this car seems to be continuing. The car hasn't even been on the road a full two weeks yet. First thing was that it decided to stop going in reverse, this somehow happen over night. Second thing was the plastic cog on the speedo sensor broke off so had to get a new one. Third thing the car decided it didn’t want to start anymore, again happened over night, good thing is this problem seems to have fixed itself. Starter solenoid I think. And the fourth thing as explain above some women in a new BMW drove into me as I was overtaking her. On a more positive note though I have got some more work done to the car

Damage to the passenger side wing. You can't really see in this picture but the wing is dented in aswell

Mounted the ignition coil under the plastic heater cover, trial fitted the windscreen washer bottle, fitted the bonnet lifters and brake fluid bottle cover

Quick update. Should hopefully have my car collected by the body shop tomorrow to get the wing replaced through the third partys insurance and hopefully get the front valance done at the same time, depending on cost. Also received these from Ernie, cheers mate, hope you don't mind me using your picture.

Got the car back from the body shop so I thought it was time for a quick update

New wing, and no more dent in the front valance. Put the original indicators back on and got some stickers made for my wheels.

http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p136/courtnova16v/DSC02121Re-sized.jpg

http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p136/courtnova16v/DSC02124Re-sized.jpg

Fitted my interior door handles. Still abit of wiring to be finshed off inside.

http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p136/courtnova16v/DSC02118Re-sized.jpg

Also fitted a brand new starter motor today as I've having issue with mind for a while and it got to a point where the car just wouldn't start. So thought it was time for a new one. Still little bits left to do but its getting there. Thats all for now.

Also, what steering wheel is that you've got? OMP? looks similar to my mountenay one except yours is deep dish.
