I want a gsi dash but there's no way I'm paying a ridiculous price for 1 so I was going to paint a standard grey mk2 dash black. Anyone done it and what did you use?. Can you get proper paint for things like that?

Gsi dashes arent that expensive i got one for a quid lol

I did paint my old grey dash using plastic primer and normal black paint.if you search on here theres a few posts about people doing it

I left the dash in and masked/papered everything off,but to be honest its probably just easier to remove the dash then do it

Remember if you paint it get lots a lacquer on as paint can peel off easily if you catch it,which is easily possible on a dash

I can get a complete grey dash of a mate cheap so I'll just get some plastic primer and do it that way. Thanks for the help.

If you are intent on doing it, use interior dash paints. However I find GSi black dashes make the interior dark & drab. My car is an original GSi & for that reasonn it will stay to keep the identity of the car but I do know I was far happier behind the wheel of my Luxe or my TD as the grey interior is far more uplifting IMO.

Painting it is a great way to ruin it IMO. Think twice before doing it.

[edit] btw I have a Grey mk2 dash carcass here thats gonna get chucked soon.

Halfords flexible vinyl paint. I can dig my fingernail in to mine and it doesn't flake off.

Yeh as has already been said make sure that you use vinyl paint as it impregnates it's self into the material being painted and wont start to flake off.

Hmmm, black mk1 dash, now there's something you don't see everyday!. I might just do my mk1 dash black and fit some digital dials.

Nevo, you could paint the whole car with that lot!!

As for spraying the dash, i used the cheapest **** paint i could find and its worked perfectly! I know a lad did the roof lining with the same stuff, came out very well.

i painted the plastic parts of my mk2 dash in the colour of my car (e200 black), but when the sun was shining, i had a big refecting spot right in my face lol

well thats what i thort , but am a lil bit low on cash at the minuet , so al just have to save up for the digi dash ....

PS: Pics dont really do it justice , the dash does look 110% better in black looks more modern by far . Just need to give it a quick polish as you can sometimes see finger prints in the sunlight , doesnt cause anymore problems tho with refelction or owt ....
