GTE Gearbox

im converting a mates nova to 1.6 gte modified engine and gearbox, when i put the gearbox on the engine there was no drive to the wheels coz the shaft that goes to the clutchwas disengauged from the clutch plate, not a prob, i took off the end cover of the gearbox and tapped the shaft through to the clutch plate, when ive done this with a 1.4sr there was a circlip to retain the shaft in position, on the gte box there isnt one and theres no groove to retain one, this is normal right?????

shut the bonnet and walk away whilst sing to ya self.
