I changed my tie bars and TCA's today for ones with polybushes, but when I went to refit the short bolt on the passenger side tie bar bracket I noticed that the thread has been stripped:

This bolt looks just like the ones in the engine and gearbox mounts, could I take one from the passenger side gearbox mount temporarily? Just to get me to the scrapyard in the morning to get another bolt?

Thanks, Dan.

Well, the bolts do appear to be the same so the tie bar mount is torqued up now.

Am I safe to tootle to the scrapyard in it to replace the 3rd bolt in the passenger side gearbox mount?

Hi mate, from experience, the gearbox bolts and tca bracket bolts are not the same thread. Looks like someone has put a gearbox bolt in it before, hence the stripped thread.

Thanks adam, I'll probably pick you up first thing if thats ok?

John, thanks, if I find a nova tomorrow I'll grab the proper bolts aswell as the gearbox bolts, but I'm also thinking that its been like that for about 6 months now so I should be ok going to the scrapyard tomorrow.

EDIT: the bolt on the other side seems exactly the same and went in and out fine and hadn't been removed since factory, the passenger side setup came off when we swapped the engine. Something strange afoot methinks, I should be able to confirm whats going on if there's novas in clwyd breakers or kingsleys tomorrow.

John, I do apologise, you are correct. The proper bolt went in ok and torqued up fine thankfully :).
