well i got to 80 in me 4 speed 1.2 and decided to back off

all wobbly and floaty !!

but that was in kinda highish winds (the main dualcarrigeway thru the middle of the town is on a kinda ridge so u get lots of buffeting)

i got 95 out of my 1.2 8valver merit and it wold have gone more but i slowed down i didnt want to blow my engine on public roads ive been driven at 135 in a stage 1 turbo converted evo6 and we had only just got in to top gear it should do nearer 170 at top speed

123mph outta my 1400 sr on a slight downhill on the m25, feels bit rough ride cos of mine lowered 60mm but ova than that ok, standard brakes dont stop it too well at those speeds though :P

the gsi used to regulary go off the clock whilst it was still 8v, got pulled for doing 130+ by the police not sure if they were talking sh*te though, just know was a lot more than 40 :roll:

novas speedo are very well known for being inaccurate so take everything everyone says very lightly, not saying there lying just the speedo's do :!:

Managed 98mph out of my bog standard 1.2i Luxe+ on a nice flat, slightly downward bit of road. I'm determined to get three figures though! But yeah, I'm also interested in what people with bigger engines have done in theirs?

never fitted the digi dash but from what ive read the speed sensor on the digi one is a complete bodge so i would imagine that these were even more off line than the normal ones.

obviously fitting different size wheels and different suspension setups alter the speedo anyway, these are only slight but creep more inaccurate at higher speeds.

not trying to dash everyones dreams but afterall these cars definately arent built for top speeds anyhow and most are geared for quicker acelaration. :o

I have a 1.4 flair with an SR engine and have managed 125mph out of it with no mods serious! It has been lowered 60mm also but seemed to be quite an even ride and luckily i have uprated brakes on mine so sotpiing aint a problem but recently i think driving my car is going to become a problem. i regularly take my sr up to 100mph on the motorway (jr filter full janspeed). i no it'll go faster but i can see my licence flash b4 my eyes when i hit three figures (pussy i know!!)

We took my sr up to 120 the day before she came off the road for the build. I had a ton out of Revchicks KA, When i was learning to drive I took a swift up 95 during a lesson(he was running late). Me and a mate took his XR3I up to 135 and it was still going but we ran out of road.

My vavler will pull (on a private road...) to the limiter in 5th, thats just a touch over 140mph.

By know means the quickest car ive driven for top speed, but quite impressive for a nova that cost me almost fukk all!

I got to 138mph in my GTE (on the flat, speed from my Digi dash) but that was before i fitted my cam. Im hoping it'll hit it the rev limiter in 5th now, which with the rised rev limiter should be around 140-145.

Dont forget your speedo varies by about 5mph just dpending on how worn your tyre tread is at high speeds.

I've clocked a sphincter loosening 105 in my 1.2 mk2 4 speed nova- slight downhill, wind behind me with still more on the pedal. Thats with car lowered 60mm, k&n filter and 15" wheels - even retarded speedo a bit coz the bigger yer wheels the more the speedo's out (e.g yer speedo ready 70, yer actually doing 88!) - theres a site u can go on that tells you how to calibrate yer speedo if u change tyre sizes - can be out by quite a bit specially if u jump from 13" steelies to 15's.

Dont do it often but its fun when you do - and my car dont shake to bits neither!

My first 1.2 got me to a ton down a big hill 20 minutes after passing my test, it could only show 95mph on flat roads.

My A reg fitted with a totally stock 1.6 gte lump & box, and on 185/60 14s used to regularly hit the rev limiter at a recorded 120mph. I had checked the reading thru a police measured mile on the m40 at 90mph. it took 40 seconds, so it was fairly accurate.

anyway, my family car is an Omega estate 2.0 16v, and that can do 130mph with 5 people and stuff on board, The fastest I've ever driven was in a BMW 735 at 145mph on a single lane A road.

125mph in my current 1.4 with rally gearbox at 8000rpm.
Both rev counter and speedo way off their counters down the M6 racing an Accord Type R when it was a 1.6 on twin 40's etc. The rev counter was reading about 200rpm slow at 6500 but the speedo was virtually right as checked on a rolling road using 16" rims

Hey, im not claiming anything, im just saying what my speedo says. Im running 195/45/15 wheels, which are the same size as the steelies with the difference in tyre height. The top speed on my GTE will be restricted by gearbox ratio like Dan16v says, but don't forget mine has a higher rev limit. But really what does top speed matter, cause how often do you get to go top speed? not to often. The fun is the speed the car picks up. Nova's arn't a heavy enough car to be high speed cars, leave that to the BMW's etc.

I hit about 117 mph on my nova sri then the traffic started to get thicker it was still pulling though seemed quite smooth probably due to new tyres all round on stock vaux wheels not bad for a 122, 000 mile nova on orignal engine! I also drove a ?60,000 range rover at 113 mph then my dad who was in the passenger seat told me to slow down! oh and i was watch a dvd at the same time! But the fastest was probably about 120+ as a passenger in my neighbours TVR scary shit!

My mate had a 2.0 turbo astra. We were doin 155, we went round a very slight corner and you could feel the car sartin to slide.

thats the thing tho ive found with digis that at the lower speeds there fine i e 40mph there spot on but in my old gte at 100mph it was almost 15mph out and do you realy think a 1.6 could do 153mph with just a cam and td gbox lol!
as of luggys its believable coz of the engine etc same with all our valvers they all seem round the 140- 145mph as even with mods you are still restricted through the box unless you have a raised limiter like burrows, but things like saying a std 1.3 can do 130mph its not true :|

Yeah I will agree with you there Dan, a standard sr will no way do 130. My 1400sr when it was completley standard ran out of puff at just over 100mph, maybe 110 on a good day. Going down a hill it would sometimes do 115-120. Since carrying out some engine mods (see 1.4sr gallery) it will pull right up to the red line on the flat no problems at 125mph. Not had 130mph out of it cos thats deep in the red on the rev counter, I don't want it to go bang!!

i think it'll pass 100 on the flat but last time i tried it started juddering and shaking like fuck and as you all know, nova brakes are like cheese, i wouldn't want to try and stop from that speed :o

I got 116mph (dont do it pretty scary) in my 1.2L nova down the motor way outa liverpool on the slight down hill that was scary as shit, car was all rattly BUT my 1.4sr has been to 126mph on a very long flat road lol. And that was smooth strange how things can differ.

All thats nowt me mate took me to 170 in his Sierra saf Cozy (460bhp) paddle clutch thousands spent etc and every penny was worth it lol. I had a smaile for weeks (i think that was off the g force though lol)

Ther majority of these cars most peeps on ere will hate but here goes anyway........

1st car:Nova 1.2 merit full janspeed and k+n bolt on = 104mph
2nd car:Citroen AX GT:cold air filter, janspeed:dunno - speedo never worked - but I raced my m8s 205 gti - beat him
3rd car:Fiat Uno Turbo:stage 3 head, induction, some fancy turbo = 111mph (it lasted a week b4 blowing)
4th car:Fiesta XR2i: No mods = 120mph
5th car:VW Scirocco GT: full scorpion twin exit, k+n:119mph
6th car:Ford Escort eclipse (no mods - used as runaround) =108mph
7th car:Honda Accord 2l 16v: no mods = 129mph
8th car:205 gti: no mods = 122 mph

there ya go, majority of these cars R pish however I am currently seeking a Nova GSi/Astra GTE.

So the fastest i've driven at was 129, maybe 130 in a family saloon honda accord - it shifted tho :D

just tried top speed again but got to 120mph in my 1.4sr (128 so far ive had) and either the carb was flooding or it was trying to tell me to back off cause it was going all splutery its fine now its just when i go far distances at hi speed or stick at a constant speed over a long time any 1 whos from stoke i did it on the A500 on way to J16 if u try it just watch the bumps on the left hand side of the road as i nearly took off.
