As today was a nice sunny day I thought I'd get cracking with the calipers as I have had them for a while but not had the time to start.

This is what they looked like when I got them:

Yuck

After a spot of cleaning, wire brush and taking off loose paint:

And the other side

A lot of elbow grease, nitromors and my trusty wire brush attachment and drill later:

Looking better already if I say so myself :D

Dollop of etch primer

And the other half

Now this half of the caliper was a little rougher then the main body so a few coats of filler primer was used to smoothen things out:

I popped out to B&Q to see what paints there were for metal and I came across this which was interesting:

I got a can and came home.

I painted one caliper with my original choise of satin black and laquer (laquer was not yet flatted and I think begin in a very hot garage made the laquer dry as soon as it hit the caliper and some areas look hazey)

Then I gave one half of the Caliper a coat of my new paint

I have already kinda made up my mind about what one to go for, can you guess? lol But dont mind hearing your poinions peeps.

Will post more pics as I get it done :thumb:

The Chrome Paint used in here is actually pretty ****. I've done my Calipars in the same stuff. That pic is when the Calipar is wet, when it dries, it dulls down a bit and you can actually rub the finish off with yout thumb even after drying or being in place for months. It makes an Ok finish but its always going to need re painted fairly often.

Stop reading my newspaper

I will be finishing off my brakes tomorrow as Im off work, yay!

Will also be re-spraying my drums BUT not in the chrome-ish finish that would look chavved up, it will be gloss black or satin black and a clear coat.

I take it most people have liked that paint finish, if you go to B&Q you will see that they have quite a few different finishes, even a copper chrome effect one.

Anywho, I can't stop anyone from doing the same and I dont really mind.

More pics tomorrow

How do you find the paint?

The paint seems to be good has adhered well to the caliper and im happy with the finish. I havent had the time to do the other bits but once done I think they will look nice.

Just thinking whether to laquer this finish or not

i used the chrome paint on my cam cover.before refitting it i thought id get sum brake cleaner and wipe the dirt off. oh poo..it wiped the paint.off

so i thought ill repaint it and put a laquer on.that had the same affect as the brake cleaner and lifted it straight off.so i didnt use it again.

my boss has got it on his v8 pulleys in his hotrod though.

Brake cleaner will strip most paint or at least damage it.

May laquer it still. Thing is with any pain if its still wet and you wipe it theres a good chance you will strip the paint below, got plenty of experience with that lol

Might just buy the plasti-kote laquer that shuld be compatible

Might find lacquer may make the finish a bit less shiney, but should protect it better.

Thats what Im considering now, might have to try it on the smaller section of the caliper if not then leave it be and make sure they stay clean.

Well today was another fine day so I got cracking.

I actually first started sorting out my wiper arms as they rusted in areas and looked past it. Once they were sorted I cracked on with the caliper body.

Not the best pic I know but gives you a brief idea. Will get some more pics up with my proper camera when they are dry.

Now they are all done, wll be ordering the refurb parts when I get paid renewing seals, sleves and pistons and then whack em on :D
