nova black smoke

ok went to manchester on saturday engine light kept apearing then going off, did 110 mile to £20 pretty much empty as i came home, ok black smoke coming out of the exhaust and engine light on,where do i begin to look its a 1993 1.2i luxplus? any thing that usually goes on them ? or blocks up etc?and where or how do i go about getting it diagnosed? wheres the port or whatever ?
the engine still runs no oil in water or vice versa
was thinking with the orange light on could be the o2 sensor?
black smoke is too much fuel being burnt?
so it must be overfueling ?

any help appriciated ty
