View Full Version : Will 2 x 300w subs be ok with 500w amp
Hi ive bought a 500w rms amp and 2 x 12" 300w rms subs, havent installed anything yet as the weathers crap and i cant be ****d lol
Im abit worried there isnt gonna be enough power coming from the amp thus ill turn the gain to high and blow the amp
I could get 2 x 10" subs which are 250w each and would match ok
Anyone know if its gonna matter that much?
Ta :thumb:
500W at what resistance? Monoblock with the amps in series/parallel, or 2 channel?
What are the make and model numbers of subs and amps?
500w at 2 ohms mate and its a monoblock amp
Its a Fli 1000m amp and 12" fli trap twin sub box, dont start giving me grief some people on here dont rate em! :D
And the connections on the amp for the subs are -- ++ ta

Does it actually say it's 2ohm stable?
Yep its designed for either 250w rms at 4ohm or 500w at 20ohm

Hmm...
I never really had a problem with my PINK FLI sub and allready attached amp.
But never wired up a seperate amp and sub by them.
Try it all you can loose is an amp.
Can allways upgrade to a better install then lol.
lol pink!
Well what rms are the amp/sub youve got? When ive seen fli active boxes they just seem to say the rms of the sub dont say if the am is as powerful or not
And i dont fancy burning my amp out ta! Is yours really that crap?

I don't use it anymore it's sat in the garage on the shelf.
I have a Kicker L7 12inch 1500 watt 750RMS sub now.
Awaiting money for big power amp.

Err yeah for about a week till i got bored of the little amount of pounding it gave.
Depends how much you are into your bass.
I like bass that makes it hard to breath when your in the car.
I like the sort of bass that makes you feel like you have a big spider thats pi$$ed running all over you head . lol ... My cuz has a new mini and he has got a full vibe system and we ones was driving threw the town .. music on a little bit louder than normal and that was setting car alarms off all over the place and you could see the shop windows vibrating , he's got like a 5000watt system mind ya and the cars worth like 10 - 15 k .. lol nice tho
Well yer we all like abit of bass! Dont want to go deaf tho lol
I was hoping 2 X 12" would do the job for me
Back to the original question tho am i risking blowing my amp by using 600w worth of subs when the amp is only 500w
Assuming the two subs are wired in parallel, they will be supplied with 125WRMS each with a 2Ohm load on the amp.
...if they're wired in series, they will be supplied with 62.5WRMS at 8Ohm. Fail lol
You'd need a pair of 125W/4Ohm subs to suit the output of that amp.

just use 1 sub, one 12" set up properly gives enough bass to be getting on with ( im using jbl 12", sealed box, running off a sony xplop 400w amp, and it shakes the fillings out of yer back teeth!)
How the hell do you work that out Razorjack!
if the amp is 500w rms at 2ohms,then 2 subs at 4ohms would share the 500w and making the output 250w each at 2ohms
Ive decided to buy 2 x 10" subs at 250w rms each so it should work out ok
With lots of maths and equations, took me ages to figure it out lol
Unfortunately it doesn't work out as just 2 subs = half the power each.
I dont get how you work it out though,it says in the manual 500w rms 2 ohms and 250w rms 4 ohms.So if i had one 2 ohm sub it would be 500w,or two 4 ohm subs would be 500w
Yes, but those ratings are for ONE subwoofer, not two. Having dual subs wired in different ways changes how the power output and load works.
Fair enough! I better have another look at the manual see what it says,i thought as the amp has two outputs it would just be halved.I do remember it saying it was only suitable for either one 2 ohm sub or two 4 ohm subs not recommended for any other configuration
