how many people get nasty comments for driving a nova reason for asking is twice this week someone has commented on my car

1st being a lad from work saying why the hell are you driving that shed for?
well that made me mad

2nd i pulled up outside the shop near my gf house one of the lads in there said "dont park that shed outside here" my reply being "you cheeky all nasty swear words under the sun" shouldnt have rose to him but i did and that made me mad for the evening. all the hard work and effort we put into them and comments like that did upset me lol

just wondered if people hit the same problems i think they should keep there opinions to themselves lol

I've been putting up with it for years, i brought a brand new nova in 1992 so i've had 17 years of gob. 204 brake pisses all over anything they own though

most of us could easily go out and buy a sportscar for a couple of grand, most people just don't get it.

fluck em, i say:thumb:

good point but if you spent a fortune on your car and someone was to abuse it would you smile at them thanks for the comment and drive away ?

It's part of the fun.

You just have to smile inside whilst thinking how much better a Nova is and how deluded they are!

I get a bit of stick about it but don't let it bother me, its only a bit of banter. Normally the boy racer cr@p but I just comment on how old Nova's are now and how the racer image has moved onto the Corsa/Saxo/106 - I can wind em up a little by stating the Nova is almost a classic :)

I get it twice as bad now though since the other car is a Skoda lol

i got laffed at in the baby blue saloon which was built as a pure piss take... anyways one guy was pointing and laffing at the car one morning which kinda annoyed me... anyways he lives on the same street as where i used to park my car. he had a shock when i walked over and said ****ing laff now you prick.

He didnt look twice at me after that.

Its always going to be the same!

Anybody who is clued in, will respect a Nova (most people around my area do see them as more than a chav-mobile luckily, as theres about 4-5 hatches, at most, on the road in my county).

But then you will always get the bandit driving his new fiesta, thinking his car is 10x better than a Nova in all departments, because its new etc.

I don't care tbh. All of my friends, despite the slagging lol, know what I'm about.

(I'm quite the opposite of a chav BTW lol)

all the little chavs round here give 'nuff respect yo' to the nova.i parked up outside some shops the other week and there was a group of chavs outside and as i was walking to the shop one shouted out

chav:nice car mate.what you had out of it?
me:hmm about 70-75mph
chav:is that it!??(with a very puzzled look on his face!)lol

i just walked into the shop laughinglol

my easy solution to this problem would be to get out of your "shed" grab the bloke and put his face though the window of what ever "shed" hes driving, then comes the question "do you still think my cars a shed" if replys no kick him in the back and **** off, if replys yes pull his head out of the window (being very carful not to cut your self on any of the glass) drag him round to the other side of the car and repeat step one, one this is complete get in your car and fu ck off before his 4 rugby playing mates come out of the onestop that your parked out side and see whats happened.

The people that know their stuff about cars will norm give you nice comments from my experience.

Such as:
Nice car you have their don't see many about anymore.
I wanted a Nova when i was younger they were the car to have back in the day and i would still have 1.
I love how low it looks do you plan to put a 2.0 in it some day? Then you get the people that think they know everything but know nothing.

Giving comments like:
That belongs in a scrap yard.
Why spend all that money on it, you could have a new car by now.
Then you get the usual sniggering.Around my way i have only really had 1 or 2 at the most neg comments.

The rest have been good ones off drivers that have had one in the past or havn't and allways wanted 1.

I have 2 mates with mums that used to have um aswell and loved um.

All my mates like it and when i let them have a drive they liked it more lol.

I havnt driven mine on the road yet, So I cant really say on my experience of abuse. I have however, been a passenger back when my bother had his fleet of Nova's. We were in a 1.6 GSI Nova, Bloody rocket it was. Was fairly late, We were driving along and stopped at some lights. What do you know? a Saxo VTR and a Peugot 106 Rallye with a Stage 2 rally head, Pulled up behind, The road ahead was a dual carriage way. I think you can guess what happened, They started trying to race us. Got on the dual carriage way, Bye bye Saxo and 106 LMAO. :D When we got to the lights at the end of the dual carriage way, You should have seen the guy in the saxo's, face. LOL, I wish I had a camera.

It just goes to show, People always judge a book by its cover when it comes to Nova's. Thats the wrong thing to do, As the saxo guy found out - The hard way. lol

I think its one thing you just need to accept when owning a nova,
1/ they are crap in the eyes of most other people.
2/ you will get abuse from time to time!

If the general public think novas are crap and old, and that also filters down to car thieves so they don't want to take them, thats alright by me!

I've always used my Nova ownership as a point in case of proving that we dont all conform to the stereo-type of what Nova drivers like.

The fact I've had my GSi for 9 years shows I wasnt owning it as a fad.

A while ago in my TD (nova), I heard some little kid laugh at my gippo car. Whatever! My TDi Fiesta is miserable compared to that.

Their is 1 thing that i totally hate about about new cars and i hope the rest of you agree.

That thing is you can't feel anything benief your accelerator foot because everything is just powered by electric these days.

When i get in my nova i feel the shakes the power (of the 1.2) lol

almost all the people I meet respect me for keeping it going. Christ! I drive a mk3 fiesta and a mk1 nova - I am a 90's chav, but both cars are minty mint and tastfully done. I normally end up hearing about when they had a nova/fiesta and how good it is to see such a tidy one on the road still (more the nova)

I've got Odd wheels on mine and i still havn't sorted my rear bumper - It makes it even more fun. Occasionally i'l hear the odd passer by telling their friends "that's on carbs" but apart from that its mostly laughs.

When i was at croft once i didn't get anything but praise. I was outpowering alot of nicer looking cars down the pit straight, and everyone was commenting on how surprising it is, and how good it sounds !

Wouldnt that depend on what year BMW tho, as 90's BMW's (E36's) are IMO superior to the 90's AUDI's.

Example (a mates car) - 1996 BMW 328i Coupe Auto in white
89k miles with full BMW history including dealer stamps
Red heated leather seats
202bhp in Sport mode
150bhp in "normal" mode.
Insurance group 16 (IIRC)
Cost - £1800

What 90's AUDI is similiar to the above for the same money?

I can honestly say i dislkie driving a nova. When in the past i have had a corsa b i honestly say i felt far more respectable driving the corsa! I used to love my nova when i was 20 but now i think with it been off the road so much its just not the same anymore. Yes i appreciate a nice clean nova but i dont admire anyone driving one day to day!

Being an enthusiast doesnt mean you own the best car. It means you have a completely dillusional and sideways view of the car you have chosen to love. I repeatedly curse the affection I have for the little feckers, continuously wish i'd got into a more contemporary or reliable car, but hey, thats not what its about.

I have to spend at least an hour or so a week keeping the 1.2 on the road, and the track car has imploded more than a fat mans bowls, but i still keep at it for some bizarre reason.

If someone insults your car, 9 times out of 10 theyre not a proper car enthusiast, because they dont understand what its all about. Banter is a completely different thing though, and shouldnt be mistaken for insults. My comments about RS Turbo's are always Banter, because I can understand why their owners keep at it. They have fallen in love with a lemon, like I have, and have no fecking escape!

Luckily though, being 6 foot 3 kind of stops people saying anything lol

We organised a small Nova meeting in our local town once, me, Keith Robionson, Beaney and a few others. Now, 1 Nova is enough to attract a small crowd in my town, so Imagie what 8 did. We had all the chavs of the day snooping round then, pointing and saying "Thats been filled" or "My 1.4 Civic would beat that" and of Co**** the obligitary "Wanna race?" Comments.

Its hard to loose the Stigma that comes with the Novas, but it does seem that the Chavs are moving on to more stupid cars so its not too bad. Its like Cavalier SRi 130s. Every Burbury, Nike and Gold Jewelery wearing tw@t of the day had one, but now it seems that they dont anymore!!

I don't mind driving one every day. Sold my last XE Nova and had a fairly respectable Celica GT4 which didn't attract any attention but was ultimately boring and slow so sold it and built another XE Nova.

Was getting quite a few positive comments about how quick it was at York dragway this weekend and even got a cheer when it beat a Trans-am up the strip.

Also get a few negative comments, mostly from the people at work who have newer cars which instantly means they are better and that i'm jealous!!

Not driving my nova round at the moment as it's been off the road for almost a year whilst i use it as my long term project, however i did drive round for a year in it from being 17, it was my first car. Got loads of mixed comments about it to be honest, such as Why are you spending so much on that? you could buy a better car !! ??? whats the point of spending so much money on that etc did get loads of good comments on it though! such as Nice car mate, thats well nice! (from the local chavs lol) they create alot of attention because they are getting rarer and they look totally different to any modern car, in response to what a couple of people have said a couple of pages back about not liking driving Novas, my response is why are you on this forum? and whats the point of owning one? it's a waste of money if you dont like the result! lastly i do admit that whilst i do love my Nova i do agree that it's not the best daily driver! they require quite abit of maintenance and whilst i was driving mine through winter i kept worrying about it going rusty lol, They do go well for what they are though! i had a 1.4 carb model and it was absolutley bang on the same peformance wise as my mates T reg saxo VTR.

As am I and at the minute no one has anything other than respect for them. THere was a few Chav'd Novas around but luckily they've all phased out. Which is nice. The make big money over here now and because they're rare due to lack of maintanence etc. So roll in the Money!!

In all honesty this kinda image will never totally go as peeps our age will remember them and the sort of peeps that would abuse them.

For the sheer pleasure of driving the time effort and money put into any car will be evident if done properly.

The stage i'm interested in doesn't have any crap on it that would detract from the functionality of one purpose.

With this in mind it doesn't matter what shell the car is built upon ~ so long as it's relatively lightweight.

Looking into the various engine layouts, making a shining example of that design type is all you can do I suppose.

Some like certain shapes and others don't, but most will agree on key ingredients mixed properly ~ ride height & wheels being the most dramatic way to communicate purpose.

Quality of components will only provide driving consistencies and reliability.

Suppose the biggest poi is essentially over engineered cars.

That said there needs to be a clear focus for it's given purpose and an overall balance for useability.
