This link here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Literacy) would explain a lot.

lol i nearly cried when i read that (4 times and still only think ive caught the just of it)

why would you bore out a 1.4 if you could just drop in a 1.6 for the price of a slab of lagers??

P.S: what did it say BEFORE it was edited at 12.46? lol

Insurance/tax duty comes to mind..... ;)

Even though re-boRing a 1400 would no doubt cost 3/4 times the price of a complete 1600 engine

from the use of words, spelling and phrases in the first post, i assumed this had never even been considered lol lol lol

Hi,

The standard procedure for an "overbore" is to go to any engine machine shop (check Yellow Pages) and ask for the bores to be enlarged by either 0.5mm or 1.0mm. This will give you up to 1440cc (ish) and higher compression. Whilst at it, consider having the crank re-ground. The machinist will supply all parts needed to re-assemble and you can expect to pay around £500-£750 for the pleasure.

If you are doing this for a power increase, there are much more cost effective routes that should be attacked first (or at the same time) such as the head, cam, induction and exhaust.

I first tuned a 1400 8v and loved it. I felt a greater sense of achievement with that than any other engine since. The spec was: Blydenstein B pack head, Piper 285deg cam, twin 40's and 4-branch with system. Bottom end was standard.

my 1400 8v lump is overbored with larger pistons too instead of oversized rings , its 1430cc ( was done as the bores were scored up) but it also has a massivley ported head, kent fast road rally cam , lightened and balanced flywheel etc etc.
the bottom end rebuild and new pistons cost nearly 800 quid ( well cost my old man cos origanaly the engine was in his corsa) .

personly id just use a 1600 but i got the engine of the old man for free and its only done 250 miles since built sweeet produces over 120bhp with my throttle bodies on it.
