I will be re-spraying my bumpers soon, some areas have paint that has flaked and in other areas the paint seems normal.

What can I use to remove the paint off the whole bumper before the respray, without damage?

Hmm nitromors maybe?

Personally id just key the whole bumper, to remove all the flaky paint etc.

My thoughts exactly lol

Thought about the key just hope It rubs down well & smooth and hopefuly the paint underneath dont flake off later.

Deffinaltly nitromors i used it on my sideskirts takes all the paint away either on the first strip or second all you need is one of them spounges with the rough greenside to wipe it off, need some elbow grease though, but it wont harm your bumper in the slightest
(thanks kitt1972 great tip)

if you're going to use Nitromors, get the automotive stuff as its a bit less aggressive than the regular shizzle. It'll still probably eat the bumpers, but not as much lol

I have a bottle of Nitromors, the green tin that says it can remove 15 layers of paint.

Gonna have to read the label to see if it damages plastic otherwise gona have to look for the automotive stuff.

Thanks

Nitromorse definately wont melt bumpers at all! Im currently using it on a gsi front bumper with 3 layers of paint on it.

Though it does definately work ive put 2 coats on then scraped off the paint on 3 different occasions and its still not all off!

Been using a plastic scraper for removing ice off windscreens and it works ok,tried wire wool and it gets clumped up with paint nearly straight away.

Ill try the green side of a washing up sponge but im not holding up too much hope :(

Yeah but as your bumpers are plastic and micro Porus it'll probably react with the paint. Get the power washer out and remove all you can with it. What wont come off, spray the lot with some good thick primer and sand it down nice and flat.

What do you mean it'll probably react with the paint,in what way

He means that the nitromors will soak into the bumper, then once its painted the nitromors will slowly come back out, and eat the paint from the underneath.

Ah not good then! So im best power washing before painting and priming then that should hopefully sort it out?

Though my mates nitromorsed a few bumpers in the past and i dont think he's had any issues

You're still better off with the Powerwashing

I mean, better safe than sorry.

use a decent degreaser to get any oil from bumper protection out.. pressure wash.. then sand the crap out of it to get rid of the old paint and also key the plastic up.

then a quick does of plastic primer (its clear and you think its going to do fark all), then thin coats of high build primer to permit a bit of flex, and then lots of thin coats of paint (same reasons)

Plastic primer is clear? The one I use is grey bit like standard primer.

Right so power washing is best, typical my pressure washer is dead
