How do you remove splinters?

Right we call these little feckers skelfs up by me and the one I have in my thumb (and have hgad in there for over a month) is really starting to p1ss me off!

Basically its a fibreglass skelf and I got it after grabbing my number before I'd smoothed it down. Went right in and really hurt!

Managed to get most of it out but theres still some in (broke off) and I can feel it but cant see it.

All round it has gone hard and looks like a caluss.

I dont do pain but have been "probing" with a pin for ages until i got down to the tender bit and now it just smarts and I cannae take any more!

I ALLWAYS use a clean pin or sewing needle scratch the skin at 1 end of it a few times even though it hurts then once you have broke the skin to it just ease it out.

If that don't work scratch along the length of the splinter.

I think of it this way - i can scratch my skin or prod it with a needle / pin to get it out and be in pain for a few seconds well i do it or be bugged for days or weeks and risk infection.

I cut one out with a stanley knife once because I had a metal one stuck in there for a few weeks and I'd had enough. I cut a small slit above it then hooked it out with a pin. Hurt like f**k lol.

yep thats pretty much the only way to get deep splinters of crap out :D performing surgery on yourself is manly and cool too

Slit alongthe top or to the side of the splinter and it'll come out itself. Then run and get the first grown up you can to kiss it better. It always makes it all better. :D

Try sticking a plaster on with some germoline. Sometimes it helps draw them out... if not... the skin will be soft from the germonline meaning you can dig deeper without hurting as much.

Self surgery rules. I jammed a screwdriver into my hand once, and it folded the skin in under itself. The only way to get the skin out was to slice along my finger and remove it all. Much bleeding and pain, I felt very manly.

Have plenty of iodene on hand to plunge your mutilated digit into once you have finished 'operating'. lol

I've done both of my toes after having an ingrown toe nail when I was in my teens.

Simple operation really and feels instantly better as it relieves the pressure on the corner of your toe.

Take one sharpe stanley knife or scalpel. Slice longways down the nail from top to base. Remove slither of nail... check corner of nail for puss. Relieve pressure with scalpel if needed. The nail should eventually grow back.

I did actually have a good pokle about and retried using some extracting paste and I think i got a bit out however the crater I left now needs to heal before I can tell if theres any more in because it smarts!

Stick some Isopon in there, sand all down and a bit of high build primer and you're sorted.

Yeah dig it out your self Ade, if no joy though go see your Doc's as you could get an infection.
I got a splinter of maple jammed right under my finger nail right to the light color part, it throbbed like ****, the guy i was working with pulled it out with pliers,
but some of it got stuck in under the nail,it was left under there for few days and my arm started to ache, i ignored it for few more days then noticed this dark line in my arm, i had septicemia (blood poising) when to Doc's they gave me some antibiotics and i was fine in two days.

Soak your hand in warm water to soften the skin then tease it out, use tweezers/ pluckers as soon as you see the foreign object :p lol

this might sound painful but its not,put your finger under the cold tap for a good five minuates untill you cant feel it(numb)nick with a stanly blade.razor blade,trust me you wont feel it.squease it out,plaster on for a day or two,sorted.you honestly dont feel the blade due to your finger being frezzing numb:)

i used to work at a pallet and export case makers, air nail guns shooting at 5" nail around 40ft through the air lol

on day i sliped and the nail went stright through my hand and nailed it to a bit of wood, the boss come over tapped it out then got the claw hammer on it, pulled stight out carried on working lol
