Around my spark plug thread there is like black oil

Someone suggested it could be contaminated water ?

Can anyone shine any more light on this and will it cause any problems ?

What could be the cure as well

Cheers, Vaughan :thumb:

Where abouts?
Inside the chamber, or on the outside of the head around the plug thread?

I had all my plugs soaking wet once (20xe), I just put it down to not having a plug cover on!. I removed all the plugs, cleaned them up and put them back, oh and fitted a plug cover! job done and all is well.

If its around the top, where the HT lead connects, I'd say rocker cover gasket.

I'd say rocker cover gasket.

We put a brand new rocker cover gasket on it as well...

What could be the problem mate - This is helping me out

I thought it could be a complete engine rebuild...?

Is the head damp with oil(from the rocker gasket) ?

dude, if its not broke don't fix it!! If it runs fine, and isn't leaving big pools of oil everywhere you stop, don't worry about it!
Someone may have copper greased the threads of the plugs wen fitting them, with the heat it can melt and get dirty, leaving black oily crap, could be that.
Were they tightend properly, i.e. compression/oil/fuel/air couldn't have been leaking past them slightly???
I'd just clean them up on a wire wheel/fit new ones, drive it and not worry!!

They are brand new ones just put in...

Aye the car is running fine - I'll probably clean up the 'oil' then wait and see if it re-appears

Cheers for the help :)

check the mating faces are flat and true. torque the cover correctly/in the corec order, and make sure the bolts are not bottoming out causing the rocker cover not to be clamped down. also inspect the castings for cracks and holes both in the cover and the head.
theres not many places it can come from.

The spark plugs were only hand tight...

There now tightened up now - Going to see if that could be the cure

Thanks again lads :)

I did that on the Celica. Then the plug area filled with oil and I developed a rather nasty misfire and lost most of my power. Driving a GT4 all the way back from Cornwall with zilch acceleration power is not fun lol
