The 2.0xe or c20xe engine are all commonly known as the "red top". The only difference in heads on the aforementioned engine is that some of them have an expensive coscast stamp on them.

FFS Lee, EVERYONE knows there were two 'redtops'!

Although, I suspect that one has a RED top and one doesnt.

well if the heads diff it will change the compression ratios in tht so there completly diff engines the 2.0xe runs abouts 150bhp standard were the red top runs around about 200bhp standard

Thanks for the info :thumb:

I always thought the XE had 150bhp, and the LET had 200bhp.

Ive been told.

C20XE 150bhp standard

C20LET 204 bhp standard

LET is a turbo, lower compression!

I have a red top, but it doesn't make my car any faster when I wear it :(

Compression ratio adds 50bhp? :wtf:

Incidentally, I know of standard "Redtops" which run 200bhp.

LMFAO the c20xe is 150bhp and the LET 204bhp, the heads are actually the same on both bar the valve springs and seats and cams. The difference in compression ratio is in the pistons not the head.

An like already said the C20LET is a turbo an hence why it makes 50bhp more, thats the only reason.

the compression ratio is due to how close the head is to the pistons there fore u get a head skimed more it will created a bigger compression ratio the redtop heads r also made by cozworth so there for have diff engine numbers so they are totaly diff engines cheers anyway

Dude, i'll get you a shovel to dig yourself a bigger hole with!

The heads are not made by cosworth at all iirc, "coscast" refers to the casting method. A different engine number does not denote a different engine, C20xe or 20xe is not the engine number, it's the code. :thumb: . Seriously, listen to some of people on here, they know what they're on about!

cosworth only designed the 'redtop' engine and it makes no differance at all, the coscast head was made to overcome the pourous head history amoung with other changes of which im unsure of! c20xe or 20xe are still the exact same engine:thumb:

and trying to prove everyone wrong in this thread bearing in mind some people on here actually go to sleep with bits of the engine under there pillow at night, have alot more experiance and knowledge about the engine than one persons 'knowledge'!!!!:D

lol lol lol I agree with you all muppet, having rebuilt a 20xe not c20xe there are only a few things diff with engines like timing pullies and the flywheel, lamba sensor the 20xe is claimed to have 6bhp more then the c20xe your right when you say its just a code number the c in c20xe stands for cat thats all nothing else.

200bhp from a standard 20xe or c20xe I DONT THINK So lol lol

Im pretty sure that if the 20XE or C20XE (forget which one  ) could produe 200BHP stock then we'd all be XE'ing our Nova's then turbo'ing that muhahahahaha imagine that :D

Sorry Nova Addict I have to agree with the masses here mate.

Always thought the Coscast head came first then they binned it for cost reasons, the GM head was then produced by another supplier, Karl Schmidt springs to mind:roll:
I think the Coscast was then used again on the LET wasnt it?

+ points for actually knowing how compression works, however they are the same engine bar a few sensor changes and the lack of dizzy on one and a few other very minor differences.

Unlucky for you though there is some serious negative Rep coming your way for:

1) Not having a ****ing clue what your on about

2) Using letters like "r" and "u" in replace of words in order to save your one finger you have left after your other nine are lodge deep in your colon.

FYI the C stands for the particular emissions reg the engine was conforming to.

C = Euro 1 standards (also known as EC 93): Directives 91/441/EEC ;)
