hi there :) im buying all i need to service my nova at the weekend but im on a really tight budget. In general do you reckon big stores like halfords etc are cheaper or small independent stores?

use a local motor factors, always alot cheaper. but then again i get trade discount as well but will still be cheaper than halfords.

i dont know phill, trade at halfords is rather good on spark plugs and leads ect :)
If your doing the cambelt, order a pulley in as well. Thats the normal mistake people make. New cambelt, and then the pully dissintegrates lol

what would you change if doing your own service?

is the cam belt the same thing as the timing belt or different altogether? Sorry if that sounds like a stupid question lol i wont learn anything if i dont ask lol
If its an interim service, just oil and filter, and maybe air filter, but if its a new car to you, or you have left it AGES id do oil, filter, air filter, fuel filter, plugs, cambelt and pulley and probably fanbelt.
Also worth checking the state of the dizzy cap and rotor arm.
EDIT yep, cam belt is timing belt :)
Dont forget brakes as well

For now i was just going to change oil and filter, air filter, spark plugs and fuel filter. Then the timing belt in the next few weeks but not sure how confident i am doing that myself might need some supervision for that one lol

where abouts are you?
I never buy anything from halfords if i can help it.
They seem to be 50% more expensive than any where else on everything they sell.
