View Full Version : Flywheels
Thought I'd show the difference between a 1.6 8v flywheel (right) and one from an X16XEL (left):

and a super special job with a super special clutch:

Nice. I've got a lightened 1.6 8v clutch on my C16XE now.
What fly/clutch setup if that? Looks light as fook
Just to add, the POT flywheel is around 3kg heavier than the flat fly.
I have a flat on mine :)
That's the setup on CP's new lump, probably very expensive from SBD or someone.
I didn't like the look of the 16v one either so hunted round in the workshop. Good thing about working at 'Rifle Range Motorsport' is the parts lying around from over 10 years of tuning Novas!

the 16v one looks way heavier.
i wonder what would happen if u took the superlight setup there, and chopped the outside inch or 2 material off, right back to the clutch, and run the car without a starter. reckon it'd idle ?

good pictures btw, always good to see stuff next to each other for comparison
just the same as the early/late c20xe flywheels.
what did you do with your flywheel craig? it was a proper lightened n balanced pot type one, but still the flat is way lighter lol
and run the car without a starter. reckon it'd idle ?
AFPMSL lol lol

Does the f16 box and f20 box have the same splines on the input shaft (for the clutch spinner plate?). Thinking of putting the C20 flywheel on my 1.6 8v so I can run a bigger clutch.
Xe fly wont fit because big blocks have 8bolts holding it on, and small blocks only use 6
The super special job is a 7 1/4" padle clutch. They bolt on and work differently to a normal OEM flywheel. I got a quote from AP for one and with a new flywheel it would have cost about 1k.
You can get them alot cheaper though.
