I cant remember the model i had, but i had a 8ft whip ariel, an 12ft base mount ariel, speaker mic for base use, hand held mic for mobile use. A lot of the new ones dont pick up FM freq, where as a lot of the older one do ;) as its 110% illegal to broadcast on FM unless you have a license to use radio broadcasting equipment apparently.

General Baxter

that is true, and your only allowed 4watts now which is about 3-4mile,
alltho im pumping out (deleted figure) which is about (deleted double figures) Miles lol

CB's do transmit/recieve on FM (27MHz) - the CB band is an unlicensed band and it's not illegal to use.

There used to be a (circa) £20 per year license requirement but they scrapped it a while back due to the lack of use that band was getting.

When I was in school we used to use CB's to communicate before mobile phones and the internet were big. It used to be awesome and was really busy! I've got one in a box in my loft, I've hooked it up a few times over the years but theres nothing but silence around here!

seriously about cb radios.....That's how I got to be called mowgli.
back in the mid eighties I was working on a farm in the summer holidays & I installed several cbs in the tractor fleet. My brother had one & his handle was 'Captain Chaos', I was fairly thin & scrawny at the time, so he decided my handle should be mowgli (as in the jungle book) & the name stuck. twenty odd years later, some people still call me it. we had some in our lorrys in the nineties, because the quarry loaders had them, but for on road use the sh!te that came out of them was unbearable, there was even a bloke in Brum who played austrian Oompah music non stop.

We have CBs on our cars every June for the Donegal International Rally. You do get the odd idiot in between with his COrsa and a 6ft Magmite on the roof. Looks like a ****ing Remote controll car!!

iirc, you need a licence to have them over here, which doesnt happen.

When I was in school we used to use CB's to communicate before mobile phones and the internet were big.

Me and few mates did exactly the same, although they could talk over me as they only lived 3 doors away and it used to really piss me off!
I had a posh CB with low/mid/high block channels :) + i used to live near the M6 so could talk to the truckers, but i swopped it for an air-rifle!

Riggy, do you know if it's a PMR walkie talkie? If so it'll be on 446MHz - different frequency to CB (27MHz).

If others have PMR stuff I might get a couple of them - they're only cheap - Nick and me could do with something between cars.

On the other hand I want to abuse Baxter on the approach to PV on CB lol lol

Not long talked to my dad about his "Military spec" radio equipment, borrowed many moons ago "during the war" lol lol when the streets were still black and white lol

He claims can muster upto a 100mile transmission with what hes got :D

"Sierra Oscar Tango Pepsi Cola over" "We are in pursuit of a stolen Big Mac & Side order of Large Fries over" PMSL lol lol

EDIT: My old man was in the Royal Signals which, of course plays with high power radio equipment day in day out (Prior to its demise in the earlys 00 years)
