im not a fan of xe's to be honest, everyone around my area that has had one done has had it gone wrong, my last gte engined nova ran like a dream even with 130000 on the clock and no rebuild, so im hoping this one will be even better.

big gra

another late night report from the garage, this is how it looks now, not so much progress, as de-progress, engine still running lumpy and not idling, so head is now off, and found to be injector problems, i hope

i have been to scrappy and got bumpers, lights, few odd bits, just needs wings, grill and lowering kit.

Let me know if you need a set of injectors.

Maybe try priming the pump with 12v & see how far fuel sprays out the fuel line up front. If its 20 feet accross the garage then pressure is good, if it doesnt shoot fuel very far it could be dicky fuel supply.

Was the injector plug definately plugged in properly? Loom earthed onto the inlet (or wherever it is) correctly?

yep, everything was earthed, i put a bulb in each of the injector plugs and it went bright each time, checked timing numerous times. think im gonna end up selling it on ebay as a non running project, ive no more money to spend on it at all, the engines cost 3 times what i expected it to.

big gra
07-05-08, 06:57 PM
right well here is the new nova, needs "de-chaving", ie front bumper, alloys will be removed, have standard mk2 bumpers, need to find a good front splitter though, have got my wheels in primer ready for painting, not sure black or white yet though! the 1.6spi engine will be swapped for the 1.6gte engine out of my white one.

new car, needs ront bumper removing and standard one putting on. atm it is lowered 40mm front and rear is standard, going to fit the 40mm rears and see what it sits like with my 16's on.

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g201/biggra/06052008012.jpg

rear bumper is going to be changed for standard black one

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g201/biggra/06052008011.jpg

bargain of the century off ebay, tsw alloys in primer with brand new 165/45/16 tyres, wrongly advertised on ebay, got them for £105, not sure weather to go fro white of gloss black.

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g201/biggra/06052008010.jpg

standard mk2 bumpers going to be sprayed matt black

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g201/biggra/06052008009.jpg

side skirts also going matt black

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g201/biggra/06052008018.jpg

astra 1.6spi engine to be removed

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g201/biggra/06052008017.jpg

looks like maximes has taken over the boot, all that will be going, no extra weight needed.

wahey, back from my weekend away now. progress will start at dinnertime today when both engines are coming out!!

big gra
13-05-08, 12:51 AM
todays progress started with removing the gte engine from the old white shell, with the use of the universal engine removal tool, everyone should have one (forklift :thumb:)

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g201/biggra/11052008033.jpg

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g201/biggra/11052008034.jpg

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g201/biggra/11052008035.jpg

then the removal of the astra 1.6spi engine from the new nova. went out for a last drive and clutch went and spewed all of its gearbox oil all over my mates drive, so good gob i planned on changing the engine.

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g201/biggra/11052008036.jpg

Good to hear about the developments of this project.

At the rear you may need to enlarge a bit because of the scrubbing of the wheels in the metal.

Keep up the good work, m8

im contemplating on weather to keep the 16"s, or get some 15"s and lower it more. the 16"s its got now will be fine on the rear, but will be close with a 60mm drop unless they were on coilovers.

right. just picked these alloys up tonight, not what i was hoping to find, but i like them and they have the right size tyres. going to give them a clean up, and a quick spray, and they will go on when the 60mm kit comes next week. on the look out for some 80mm rear spring so the car will sit nice and level.

well, today was very stresful, got the skirts on, hate doing it but i think they have come out ok. lots of drilling and pop-riveting the clips on. really the only thing left to do is fit the 60mm kit when it comes next week, its way too high atm. that should finish the body work off anyway. need to make a bracket to mount the induction kit to the AFM.

todays progress, taken the exhaust off, cut and welded it in 2 different places, not sits straight in the tunnel, dosent knock and dosent leak too bad now.

fitted the induction kit after a long wait for a bracket, ended up making one. need a bigger filter though.

wahey, 2 weeks insurance cost £15, not bad seeing as im 18.

been out 4 a drive today (legally now), broken down 4 times. lost gears first time, lots expansion cap 2nd, and loose terminal on the battery 3rd. quick trip to the scrappy sorted the first 2, and tightened the battery terminal up.

few more pics:

well got the car back tonight from the garage, runs as sweet as it did when it was new. anyone that has rebuilt an engine its worth getting timing and fuel air mixtures etc stuff like taht, set by a proper garage, makes so much difference!

got the last few bits done before it went dark tonight, ready for tomorrow,, ooh excited!
