I have been using a pair of Kicker Impulse 7x10s in me shelf.
im quite happy with these, and use them for midrange and higher as they are VERY good at keeping clarity.
OK on the bass, although, not what i bought them for so dont expect it. (Sub build to do that)
the thing is, i just got a pair of JBL 250w 6x9s (havent tried them yet) and didnt know which people would reccomend on here?
so, poll away guys!
and any other comments etc VERY welcome.
ive always heard bad reports about quality of jbl's - if you have them can you not slot them in plqace of the others and listen to the difference?
I'd go 4 the 7x10's

i had some jbl's a while back - not the best in the world... they were alright - but if your 7x10's are doing the job now - why change?
I chucked the jbl's out in favour of some alpine 6x9 i aquired from somewhere - can't rememeber where though... lol

the bloke i got the 7x10 speakers off, two weeks old with receipt! had swapped over to them from alpine 6x9s, they dont quite handle as much bass as alpines or other similar ones, but up loud, they keep their midrange and treble so clear tis unbelieveable.
thinkin of partin with some of the ice i acquired to buy another amp.
gonna go with the 7x10s i think
havent even tried these 6x9s yet!! will give em a qwik blast some time to see what theyre like.
cheers all

although saying that a friend of mine had the same 6 by 9's you just mentioned in an mdf shelf, and they sounded gr8 so best thing is just to try.

Not sure what the JBL GTO range is like for sound quality, but if they are anything like the 'Power' range then you will be laughing coz they are quality. At the end of the day you get what you pay for mate! I have some JBL P93's (6x9, 3 way, 250W) in the rear.
at the end of the day the speakers you get are only as good as the sound proofing of yer car and the area they are attached to. If you get good quality speakers and bolt em to a flimsy parcel shelf you aint gonna get as good a repro as you would if you bolted em to a custom mdf/ply shelf. The better sound proofed the car/boot area the more noise stays in the car and thus the better sound quality/less vibration.
Saying that though my infinities are so loud the rear glass vibrates along with my rear view mirror!!!
:o
hearing aid here I come!

Ade is right of course. bolt them down to a proper shelf will make lots of difference, but I still can't be doing with the sub and 6x9s in the boot together. We all know it's wrong and sounds crap so why do we keep doing it? Set up properly I can still feel the bass through the seat without any amps or subs at all.
Stick with the Kickers :)
