cant open bonnet

went to pop my bonnet earlier today and the fkin release cable snapped on me, or just discconected if im lucky, anyhow, how the bloody hell am i supposed to open her up now ! ive got a mk.2 with a slatted grill that might possibly allow a screwdriver somewhere if u guys can point me in the right direction cheers.
its got a mind of its own that car, i think it randomly revolted at me jacking the front on axle stands and running it thru the gears with revs to check a possible gearbox problem, car was probably like "hell no !!! u aint gettin under my hood" and snap went the cable.

oh dear!
try the hook through the gril method, failing that you have a better chance of removing the grill with a small spanner through the gap under the bonnet, then getting your hand in to release it.

Yeah as said remove the grill, if only just enough to get your hand in there and release the catch.

I went through this with mine years ago. Grille out, tweak the release catch.

Even harder with a Courtenay intercooler hiding the catch.
