ok after the muck about with neil oakley for my digidash it finally arrives on monday - missing a gearbox sender
then i realised - the original dash was lost and this was his mates dash so it prolly never had the box sender
so i went on a sender hunt and turned up total blanks, either they didnt have it at all or they would only sell it with the dash
so i began to think - the 1.2i has a sender for the ECU so whats the difference - after thinkin about it i realised it was prolly just pulse timing and if i could design a circuit to double/half the original pulses it would work
to test this theory i went out to the car with the dash and 3 lengths of wire
i connected two of em to the cigg lighter and to the power in on the dash the other one i spliced in line with the speed sender lead on the ECU loom
i start the car and dash starts up as expected, no revs all guages reading nil (bar oil) and speed 0
so i decide to drive up the street
driving at what seems like about 10 (on speedo) and dash is registering 6
im like pfft so i speed up speedo is just on 20 dash is reading 19
im like :o
so i drive outta the street and along the main road speedo around 35 dash 37
im like "this is working" so i take it down the dual carrigeway at 65 and its still reading fine :)
sooo ive just got me dash workin without the astra sender :D
and i was told it was impossible, tut tut
so anyone else with a sender-less dash nip down to the scrappy and find a 1.2i speed sender and try it out - if it reads half then flick the wee switch over - and if this works we may have found a use for all those seemingly useless senderless dashes out there :)
