ok after the muck about with neil oakley for my digidash it finally arrives on monday - missing a gearbox sender

then i realised - the original dash was lost and this was his mates dash so it prolly never had the box sender

so i went on a sender hunt and turned up total blanks, either they didnt have it at all or they would only sell it with the dash

so i began to think - the 1.2i has a sender for the ECU so whats the difference - after thinkin about it i realised it was prolly just pulse timing and if i could design a circuit to double/half the original pulses it would work

to test this theory i went out to the car with the dash and 3 lengths of wire

i connected two of em to the cigg lighter and to the power in on the dash the other one i spliced in line with the speed sender lead on the ECU loom

i start the car and dash starts up as expected, no revs all guages reading nil (bar oil) and speed 0

so i decide to drive up the street

driving at what seems like about 10 (on speedo) and dash is registering 6
im like pfft so i speed up speedo is just on 20 dash is reading 19
im like :o

so i drive outta the street and along the main road speedo around 35 dash 37

im like "this is working" so i take it down the dual carrigeway at 65 and its still reading fine :)

sooo ive just got me dash workin without the astra sender :D

and i was told it was impossible, tut tut

so anyone else with a sender-less dash nip down to the scrappy and find a 1.2i speed sender and try it out - if it reads half then flick the wee switch over - and if this works we may have found a use for all those seemingly useless senderless dashes out there :)

well doe m8 - modding at its best. If at 1st it dont fit - bodge it till it doies!

Hope it lasts ok! You wanna post some kind of easy fitting guide - I'll happily include it on my site when its up and running - see if novaload will accept it!

ya i discovered that too but i think (not sure) the sender unit will only work in the 1.2? :?

um yea ok i'll throw summat together

i think the 1.2i sender SHOULD function on any F10 box, as for the others im not sure the f13 and prolly f15 would more than likely also work but someone wid need to try it

F13's are nomally fitted to SRi's right? and they already have a sender too so that sender may work as well

f15 in the GTE? again that would have an ecu sender already so it also may work

see even if it was on carbs u could still use the 1.2 sender cos it dont need the ECU to "send" so to speak, all u'd need was for it to fit the box and to give it +12v and GND
