how can i tighten up my handbrake on my 1.4 sr? ive had a look an cant seem to see how its done!
first off you must make sure the rear drum brakes are adjusted correctly. don't believe the hype, the gm self adjusters simply do not work that well.
once you have the rear brakes adjusted, look under the back. there is a piece of metal where the big cable connects to the small cable. there is a nut & threaded bit. tighten it there.

first ensure there is no 'groove' on the innermost part of the inside of the drum. grind it off so its at the same level as the working part of the drum, right out to the end. or you will not be able to get the best adjustment from the shoes.
flick the ratchet nut on the adjuster across the shoes. tighten this until it is JUST possible to slide the drum on. if it binds a bit, haul on the cable at your hand a few times to re-set the shoes. and re adjust as necessary, if the handbrake travel is excessive, adjust the cable above the axle
