cheers

the whole point of a dry sump kit is to run the engine lower in the chassis, so clearance will be better if the gearbox is modded a lot ( touring cars etc)
for the road I can't see the point

unless you are REALLY and I mean REALLY revving the nuts off it or spending a lot of time pulling 1G in the bends (like in an oval for example) then its a fabulous way to spunk £1K+ up the wall lol

Lee303 on mig is running one on his 1800 smallblock. Think hes moded the bottom of the leg for clearance of the pulley.

Thats because his setup is designed for the 16xe engine though/\
Where the pump should sit on the front of the engine, and clear everything.
He had to relocate it because of the 1800 block having slight casting differences.

Dry sump pump can be mounted on either the back or the front.

I you can afford it then its definately worth doing to any high revving track car. I have a supplier for a kit if your after one, PM me

The whole point of a dry sump is to ensure you get no oil surge, starvation then engine failure. There are also benefits that if you have the correct scrapers and setup that less oil clings to the crank and hence power goes up. Crank case pressure is reduced too which contributes to a power gain.

agreed, but if you are chasing numbers then £1-2K spent to get a couple of bhp (I know in the US pulling a vaccum even on a weet sumped V8 can get you 20-40bhp, but thats a big ass V8).

I can appreciate why you would have one on a all out race car, hardcore track slag and some silly revving application. BUT for road/keen track use its got to be bordering on the futile/pointless side. Yeah it looks pretty and funky sounding in the pub but cost vs gains vs nessecity of it are well against you for road use.

I agree, it'd purely be for the state of tune the engine is in (high revving) or oil surge issues, in a Nova.

this is a very pointless mod on which is seemingly lightly modified engine.
especially since its used at the standard mount hight.

IF you are indeed having surge problems it would be cheaper to baffle your sump properly, modify the windage tray and fit an http://www.accusump.com/ you could also modify the relief spring pressure in the pump, although if it is surge thats the problem then this wont help, but may save bearings at higher revs, and prevent the lifters from foaming so much.

in that case Draper, ignore my previous statement and refer to these

dry sump, will it fit a nova??

Yes

I've just used fully baffled sumps without any problems in the past. Ads engine uses one and that had no problems with sitting at 8800.

I'm not so sure why you think its pointless because the engine sits in a normal position ? 9/10 mk1/2 Escorts have engines sitting in a normal place but they simply use dry sumps to avoid surge at high revs, its not brain science, if you can afford it then its a VERY sensible mod if you value your engine

thank you for that!
