I need to replace my box. I've been told that there are two sizes of flywheel with two variants of the F10 box. As my box is still in situ, how can I tell from an external inspection which box I need ie which flywheel I've got fitted? I don't want to buy the wrong box!

it says the box type on top near the selector (the square bit that sticks up)

Brian,
Thanks - I know its an F10 but it doesn't tell you what size flywheel it is meant for, hence my question

As far as i know, all F10 boxs are the same size externally and the size of the clutch doesn`t has nothing to do with anything.

Look at it like this the F10 fits 1 to 1.4 engines, a 1L has a smaller clutch then a 1.4, but it still fits, the clutch size doesn`t matter.

What you what to know is the ratio of the box, if you look on the endcover plate of the box(the one you remove to extracte the final dive shaft) there is a number stamped on it something like A20242C3741AB, the piece you are interrested in is the second letter which shows if it is Close or Wide ratio ed and the three numbers that follow it as this is the final drive ratio, 3.74.

i hope this was a help, by the way what is the ratio?? i may have a box.

well if F10,13 and 15's go on small block engines, i.e up to 1600 then obviously the flywheel will be ok.

Thanks guys,
I,ve got hold of an F10 which appears to have the correct pattern
bell-housing. I was told that a F13 would fit but the bell housing was different near where the starter motor mounts. This was why I raised the query because the gearbox supplier said that the "small flywheel" F10 was different from the "large flywheel" F10 and F13 ; however some 1.4 Sr/Sris appear to have had F13 boxes fitted. I now hope this "small flywheel" F10 fits my car! I notice that the clutches all seem to be the same size, whatever box is fitted.

I had similiar problems mate, after a bit of research,

As far as I can gather all all Sri's come with F10 bell housing/box but F13 gear ratios (hence why everyone says that Sri's have F13 boxes). the box is stamped up F10. gutter when your fittin a 1.6 engine and you think you'll be able to use your SRi gearbox cuz you think its a F13 and it turns out to be too small. ha ha

im amazed by this whole F10 - F13 thing! never realised :?

no no no

the sri engine is not an sr engine with injection, the block is different

think of it as the later gsi engine but with 1400 pistons.

the block has the same design as the gsi/gte and the f10 WILL NOT fit as standard.

most sri's have an f13wr box, so any f13 or f15 box will fit!

I beg to differ. My SRi ( it's a very late one - Feb 93) had a F10 box fitted from new. See my previous posts. I looked at a f13 to replace it but the shape of the bell-housing was different where the starter motor fits. I replaced the damaged box with an F10!!!! Perhaps SOME SRis had the 1600 shape block/bellhousing and maybe the last SRis were just using up all the bits the Spaniards had left over!

now this is where it gets confusing.

having an f10 gearbox means u also have a smaller flywheel, and a smaller clutch, and it also means ur bottom end will be a different shape, now i have never come across this before, all sri's iv seen have had the f13 box.

mind you i think if an engine is desinged for an f10 an f13/f15 will still fit

i will check it out 2morrow

sorry to change the subject a little, but i want to put an f13cr box on my 1.3 sr. The box is out of a GSI, will it fit i was told it would but now im not sure? :?

With regard to the clutch - I had this replaced when the gearbox was swapped. I got the clutch kit from Partco and just asked for one for a 93 1.4 SRi - the guy didn't ask me for any other info and the clutch was fine.
Ze mystery deepens! :?

far as i know the bell housing is bigger becuz the flywheel is 200mm on the gsi/sri/gte, insted of being 180mm, and this is becuz of the bigger clutch. hmmmm

well the f13 will fit anyways, the bolt holes r in the same place, and so are the driveshaft holes!!!

maybe wrong but i thought the l8 SRi were fitted to corsa lumps
so doesnt he need a corsa box???
