View Full Version : Guess the compression
C14SE head on a E16SE block will result in what CR? How much higher?

dunno, get a syrienge and measure the volume of water in the 1.4 chamber of the head and see how much in the 1.6... give you a rough idea of increase.
Have you measured that/\ ?
Id say higher than that tbh, the chamber on the 1600 head is very deep compared to a 1400 head.
I said approx!
Assuming the piston tops are similar:
Nova GTE 10:1 CR or 1600cc compressed to 160cc
Nova SRi 10:1 CR or 1400cc compressed to 140cc
GTE block and SRi head would be 1580cc (Accounting for 20cc drop in combustion chamber) compressing down to 140cc
1580cc:140cc = 11.286:1
A good rough guide for theoretical engine building.

i ran 16v pistons in a 1.6 block with 1.4 se head and had 275+ psi!
Compression ratio and compression test are completely different.
You could have a compression ratio of 15:1 but still only read 100psi on a compression test if the piston rings are donald ducked.
Saying that, I would expect that your compression ratio would be silly high with the setup you mention.
MC
also very much depends on cam spec too....
and to an extent how fast your starter motor spins.
lots and lots of factors in the compresison test vs static CR debate :D
im going to guess 10.844:1 :p
Is that an educated guess Luke? As i could do with knowing so i know what size spacer plate to use lol
I told you what the theoretical compression was, what do you want it down too?
MC
Well with the work thats being done to the head now, it should be about 10.5:1
Too high.
If its still being turbo'd.
I know Ad, i want to obtain a standard CR, then add a spacer plate ;)
