Sheet steel/Badboy bonnet

Were can i get a sheet of steel from? I only need a piece big enough to flush me tailgate and make a badboy bonnet.

With the badboy bonnet how is it opened as the catch is covered?!?!? Would i have to resort to bonnet pins?
