just out of interest, ive always used 15/ 40 oil in my novas but a friend of mine asked me today and i thought i would check,

he has noisy lifters and has done an oil change but was suggested by another friend that thinner oil would help quieten them down,
but for some reason i have it in my head that the 8v nova doesnt like thin oil,

could someone clear this up for me

Ive always used 10/40 semi synth.

Thin oil on older engines can sometimes be a bad idea in terms of old oil seals etc letting thin oil seep past.....

Incidentally, Vauxhall-brand oil is pretty good stuff. My Celica mechanic uses it at his garage, my GT4 had a few litres of it last time it had a service lol

I always used 10W40 in my novas.

i run 15/40 in my skyline engine and it tapps a little, going to go to fully synthetic at some point

Im running synta-gold which I believe is 5w40 fully synthatic. Looks like water. Thats in a freshly rebuilt high powered (?) 8v tho.
