Right, hopefully all your dirty minds saw the title and want to read on incase the post documented sausage size.

Well it doesnt!

Would just like to know if there is much difference between a pair of 6x9s and a pair of 7x10s. running off the same power amp in the same situation.

Thanks!

Upon a bit of research, I've found the difference in price between 7x10s and something like this:

Is nothing! Surely something like linked above, is just a small sub with the mid range and tweeter built into the middle.

Assuming the size of the cone makes a difference to the amount of bass, surely these would be a better bet than the equal priced 7x10s?

Those coaxials will sound much clearer than 7x10's, but the 7x10's wil have more bass.

Its more down to the speakers in question IMO. Not every manufacturer makes a 7x10. Comparing a Kenwood set of 7x10's to some Pioneer 6x9's is daft. To get a true comparison its like for like I'm afraid, Personally I think Kenwood speakers are pants.... Anyone else make 7x10's?

This type of speakers are more noise than sound quality. I much prefer round co axial speakers, matched to an equivalent subwoofer. 5" co-ax's with a 10" sub. Or 6" with a 12".

Personally I think the 7x10 thing is just a marketing fad to make you think that it must be better than normal 6x9s, as 7x10 is bigger.

Similar to some people thinking 15" subs are better than 12" which is better than 10".

Well, the situation is I had 6x9s in the parcel shelf rigged straight to the head unit. Nice and simple but not great. Then I installed an amp to the 6x9s. Better sound quality but still not as good as possible. It also left me 2 free channels again.

So my plan is to wire the 6x9s back up to the head unit like I had them, then get the amp to power something bigger. For example what we are looking at above.

If you have 6x9s off the head unit, then 7x10s off the amp, you will just be making lots of noise, but not much in the way of souns quality. As suggested before, use 5"/6" Co-ax speakers and a sub, then each speaker is doing what it does best rather than trying to knock out bass, mid and treble and sounding swamped in the process. Amp everythign too for the best quality, if your amp doesnt allow this, then buy a new one, they are not expensive.

i have 6x9's on a high pass filter, and a 12" sub, they all seem to do the job, sound's pretty good and you cant see out of the rearview mirror, cant be bad!
