Ok people, my 1991 1.0 Carb Nova failed its MOT this evening on exhaust emissions, and the front and back offside brake pipe flexis.

So, I need to get the carb tuned to rightify exhaust emissions?

I fitted corsa calipers and new pads for the MOT but never realised the flexis would fail. So, can I just swap the flexis over the same way as the calipers? E.g. just swap over quickly, pump brake pedal lightly until firm, and then bleed the caliper until there are no air bubbles coming out?

Thanks in advance!

carb tuned for emissions, and flexi's should be as you sya, but depending ont the condition of your solid pipes, it may become a bit of a ball ache (f the unions sieze and round off)

Yes you can swap the flexi's that way, but swap all 4 ;).

It depends which emissions it failed on as to wether or not you need to fiddle with the carb, or whether you need it to stop burning oil.

Thanks for the replies!

If it was buring oil would it not be putting out blue smoke? he just said its not meeting the right regulations, and will need the carb tuned????

Probably just need the carb adjusting aye.

The flexis can be a complete nightmare if the brake pipe unions dont want to undo....

Thanks for the replies Adam and nobbyznova!

Yea, well I have been out to the garage and soaked the brake fexi pipe joins/nuts in WD40 for tomorrow (assuming the motorfactors have the flexis in stock - probably same as corsa B?)

The nuts dont look too crusty with rust etc so hopefully it will go smoothly!

Is the carb tuning hard to do, if the mechanic knows how to do it? Does it take long?

Thanks again for the replies on short notice!

Any garage should do it.

Id advise using a proper brake pipe spanner on the unions.

Ah ok.

Sorry mate but whats a brake pipe spanner? A spanner for brake pipes obviously, but whats the advantage/can it be got easily from motorfactors?

Instead of having like a flat open end, there more curved so grip the union better which hopefully stops it slipping, knackering the union and slicing your hand open lol

its the right shape for the unions.

Another trick is to use the brake spanner, and put mole grips around the jaws of the spanner to stop the jaws opening.
