basically too much, and for no good reason what with the KS heads being 99% as good and very very easy to fix should they "go porous... erm crack"

Depends on if its a early or a late casting, so many variables. Late Dispack castings are apparently a better cast and easier to free up more flow from.

Agreed. GM heads respond better to flowing than cosscast variants. And should never go porus if you use the revised torque setting on the head bolts.

i agree also about gm heads just wondered about price as i have one in the garage and was thinking of selling it, and didnt want to get my leg lifted new they used to go for around ?150

Yes agree with all that but a company which will remain nameless flow tested nearly my entire stock of coscast and GM heads including early and late coscasts, early and late GM including my scrap heads, nearly forty in total, in standard factory form there was hardly any measurable difference except the DIS castings.
With port boring increasing the port diameter and altering the port position slightly (for the better), the bad hand finishing is removed, when combined with the opening out of the throat area.
like I said depends on application and if the casting is to be modified.

to be honest from what i have heard some companys will only port a coscat head due to there castings and the materials they are made from. nothing wrong with a cheap GM KS head which has had the pourus mod done just for piece of mind, and to buy th ehead an dhave it modded is easily half the price of a coscast head.

i did sell my own Late DIS coscast head on migweb for £250 as they are ndeed very very rare in DIS format... i have another eyed up at the moment lol..

Thats where I tried selling mine but best offer was £200 and mine is also a DIS one as well. Thats why I decided to hold onto it but might try it on ebay now.

I would have guessed that most KS heads that were going to go porous would have by now.

I certainly wouldnt pay over the odds for a Coscast head.

It usually happens when you tighten the head bolts down though so could happen on any head gasket change or if swapping the head.

Nail on the head, if the HG goes and the engine gets hot, then that also can cause it, but theyre vary rare just to randomley crack (or go 'porous') overnight.

here in holland a coscast goes for about 150 to 200 pounds..

btw.. a fixed KS is stronger than a coscast.
