After chatting with a chap yesterday who'd made some engine mounts for his xe mk1 astra, it's got me thinking. Now he works for a prestige performance manufacturer, and used some of the stuff they use to glue their cars together. Now this istuff he used isn't readily available, so anyone got any other good ideas on what i can fill my mounts with? Ideally i'd need something that sets very hard. :thumb:

I did find some polyurethane sealant a while ago but cannot remember where... This is stiff stuff that the TCA bushes etc get made from.

I used instant gasket from tool station. Like a polyeurothane in a silicon tube. About ?3.

i've heard of people using fibre glass resin, readiy available and cheap, just don;t get the stuff with the strands already in it lol

the stuff you want is the one they use for fibre glass matting as its resin only and need activating to make it set so one tin will last a lifetime

Tigerseal does work well, but leaves some "give" in the mount.

If you want them fully solid(for some reason) then yeah your going to need something like a resin that sets rock hard.

Jonlem/TurboGav used some sort of stuff that you set electrical cables in the ground with iirc on their green nova.

Beyond stiffening them up a tad, I'd go solid.

Should get to sample mine sometime soon.

I just got some old bits of Polybush and chopped it into little cubes, stuck them in the gaps in the mount then covered them in Tigre seal, been in for a good 18 month and they still seem fine ... sod paying ??? for 'propper' competition mounts.

Cheers craig, that's what i'm after doing. I need whatever i fill it with to set at roughly the same consistency as the rubber. I'll do some experimenting!

i have used some stuff called sika flex, comes in the same tube as seam sealer, i used to get this from the boat yard i used to work in but no long work there, i guess you must be able to get it from a boat shop some where. really good stuff and set solid :thumb: and looks exactly the same as the standard rubber :thumb:

Hmm, tigerseal fits that description.

/\ not the one's i've seen, the tigerseal is softer than the rubber.

try sika flex... my bro used it on his kit car,a nd it sets solid and is very adhesive! he even mounted his cycle wings with it and they haven't blown off yet. he bought it off ebay iirc.

Tigerseal is the same stuff/\
But you can get sikaflex in different strengths/hardnesses
