at least keep it mk1, if you go mk2 not only will it ruin the whole car but cost loads too, mk2 change needs new wings, headlights, bonnet, bumper and its just a load of work for nothing

ill stick with the mk1 gte/sr look then thats a bit better need to go see my uncle now for the bumper and grill.

right then some plans have changed......
i maybe possibly getting a mk3 astra 2.0 red top to nick the engine for ?20 lol.
failed mot on rot apparently the car runs ect.....
my only other worrie is ive got a 1600 8v sat by my mates front door lol.
if i get the 2.0 what do i need to do ect to get it running in the nova.
or if i dont get it and run the 1600 in there what do i need for that???

AlexW

forget the engine untill it can pass a mot without failing on rot!

And if you want anything mk2 get a mk2 dash and loom from a carb.

its got 10months mot so will still be able to have some fun while its on the road and belive me theres only one little scab of rust on it the floors look mint so does the engine bay and inner wings...first thing is to jack it up and hammerite the arches.

what is what a real nova is, a bog standard pre facelift mk1, back in the day thats what novas were known as

id drop a 2l into it but keep it exactly the same overall, no special interior, alloys, lowering kit, seats etc, a real sleeper, looks awsome as it is :thumb:

You'd definetely want to change at least the suspension and brakes for a 2.0!

As said, it's a shame to mess with the early front ends as theres so few about, but at least have a look at some pics of the nova sport before you do. :thumb: 1600 is a good choice, and a fair bit easier to fit than the 2.0

nova_paradise

ive thought about leaving it as it is tbh well for the time being.
but deffo uprate the suspension and wheels so u rekon its work ?200??

Steve
01-04-08, 01:39 AM
You payed ?200 for it? bargain! got any pics of the engine bay? I payed ?250 for mine with 29,000 miles on it. amazing at what you can buy with no money! lol

So you going for the 1600? I used to have a gte engine in my old nova and they're such a good laugh, just make sure you change the brakes and suspension or you'll have a few problems driving it lol

nova_paradise
01-04-08, 01:43 AM
yep 1600 for the win and yea looking for a decent suspension set up my mate said calibra calipers?????? and ill get some more pics of the progress when we start only thing holding me up is the webbers and manifold....cars bin a bit of a bargin lol ?200 for the car ?20 for the engine lol.its got 72k runs like bloody new slight slight blow from the exhaust.just need to pay for my gsi steering wheel and find a spare mk1 dash i can get sprayed black and some diffrent interiour in a few months my deadline is 19th of april to have it finish for castle comb action day.

Steve
01-04-08, 02:02 AM
Yeah go for cavalier gsi or mk2 astra gte 16v callipers and discs, cheap and effective. Not sure if combe is ideal for a 1600 though, as I was told the straights are long and the small blocks tend to run out of steam on long circuits.

Mine used to top out at 110mph but it got there quick. :thumb:

its all about the fun u have tho mate.

looks like its in proper good nick for a mk1, and that boot lid is limited edition stuff man, i want it aswel as vaughny, heheh.
i like the sound of twin carbs, got any other engine mods planned ? be a beast with a flywheel and cam, mebbe more if u can afford it, and strip the inside to sh!t to shed weight. :D
looks decent the way it is, id keep it standard on the outside, bar some wider steelies for handling and accomodation of better brakes, itll look ultra mean when its lowered, as mk1's always do, unless theyve been chavved.
bloody good buy for ?200, well spotted.

nova_paradise
02-04-08, 12:43 AM

blue_peg_16v
02-04-08, 08:41 AM

nova_paradise
02-04-08, 03:19 PM
oh right anybody want to swap boot lids lol.
done a bit of work today wire brushed all the ****e off under the arches then hammerited it (saves it going rusty anytime soon) also tidy up the drum.
will do the other side 2mro and then look at the front brakes they're are seriously crap lol.
