i run a 2.0 xe on throttle bodies. i have the two pipes from rocker cover going to an oil catch tank which then has a breather filter attached to it.

The car has been in "hibernation" over winter. before starting it for first time this year i checked the oil and topped it up because it was low. Once started i noticed that there was a lot of smoke/mist coming from the breather filter. it was like there was excessive pressure. this did not go away so i turned off the engine.

Any ideas what this could be? was it just the fact it has stood for a while?

One further question - I need to change the oil anyway so what oil do you guys use in your xe's? i use mainly for track day use only.

thanks

Mist coming from the breathers is normal, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Older engines will 'breath' more.

As for oil, put some 10W/40 in.

cheers Dar

it just seemed rather excessive, certainly not seen it like that before.

will the breather mod to rocker cover help this in anyway??

cheers

having left it standing over winter there will be a lot of condensation (water) in the block.... this will "mist" as the oil gets to temp and boils it off.

run it for a few days (long runs not at idle if possible) and the misting should go away.
